Well, this is the only Forum I know off, that a/ does not allow you to delete what you said and b/ that does not allow you to make corrections or alterations within a time frame. Bizarre. Is it deliberate to force people to count to 10 and check and re-check before pressing on 'send'?.

Having been a PA and translator, I type v fast and never check.

Sending an email - many times I've typed a long chatty email then tapped "back" instead of "send" - but a notice pops up to say do you really want to throw this away?

Actually Soutra, I have done the very thing once.... made a comment to someone which I thought was in a pm, and it was in the early days of FaceBook- it did cause someone to have a fit, and sadly, perhaps some upset too, so I am VERY careful now.

jingl I imagine that 'forward' in the context that Soutra used it, means that person A receives an email from person B, which they want to share with person C.
That's when you click on 'forward', with C's email address in the box. I'm sure you knew that really.
It's quite possible, especially late at night, when you might have had a few , to click on 'reply' instead of 'forward', so that said email, instead of going onto C, with, as Soutra says, a sharp comment, goes back to B instead. You might not have wanted B to see the sharp comment that was intended for C's eyes only.
The other thing to watch out for is the 'reply to all' option, when an email has been sent to a group of people.
I know someone who alienated two potential bridesmaids by replying to 'all' instead of one chosen recipient

I sent a text intended for my hairdresser. I have known him for a while. I sent it to another person with the same name. I got a curt reply back

I have also fallen foul of writing on a person's timeline on FB instead of messaging so my comment, fortunately entirely harmless and benign, was there for all to see.

DBH and I were once sending a long line of emails teasing each other while he was at work, having his lunch. Somehow I managed to reply to his last rather rude comment to the whole of my email list. Several of whom worked with him.

I received a whole load of emails almost immediately, saying that our marital discussions had made their day, they had laughed so much.

Yes, I can't see why there isn't an 'edit' facility, or even a 'delete' facilty. It does seem rather odd.
