...and you have to dress up as your favourite character from a book. Who will you be? I might be Mrs. Bennet from P&P. Lots of 'bosom hoiking' opportunities.

Plaese can I come as Granny Weatherwax from the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett? She's another one who is an ideal feminist role model.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 08-Mar-15 18:45:48

Well you can, but no one else will have a clue who you are. hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 08-Mar-15 18:46:10

wink

KatyK Sun 08-Mar-15 18:49:21

Violet Elizabeth Bott from the Just William books, then I could scweam and scweam until I was sick. Or Scarlett O'Hara. Maybe I have a secret yearning to be a spoilt brat which I have never been!

You should broaden your reading, jingl. They read "Equal Rites" on Woman's Hour years ago (it was still in the afternoon) and that got me started. I cannot believe that I am the only GNer who reads Terry Pratchett.

I think I'd rather be Nanny Ogg when. She is very irreverent, plus she has a cat, Greebo, and all those sons and daughters. grin

hildajenniJ Sun 08-Mar-15 18:58:10

when, we got Wyrd Sisters by accident, from a book club. That started me off. My favourite book is Interesting Times. I love the "wizzard" Rincewind, and "the luggage".

Wheniwasyourage Sun 08-Mar-15 19:03:26

Oh yes, hilda, Nanny Ogg is a good choice - I love the way she can always find a son to do the heavy lifting and a daughter to do the housework. (Where have I gone wrong?). the luggage would be very handy, but a bit frightening, don't you think? You wouldn't want to look at it the wrong way. I like Interesting Times too, but think my favourite is Pyramids (even though it doesn't have witches).

Deedaa Sun 08-Mar-15 21:01:44

My youngest cat is called Greebo ( he's also known as Mummy's Baby in a Granny Ogg sort of way) Granny Weatherwax is a tempting idea, but I have a horrible feeling that I'm more of a Magrat (If her mind was any more open it would be a field)
I think my favourite books are Mort and Soul Music but they are all a joy.

And I like all the books with the Witches in and I loved the ones with Tiffany Aching the witch. I have read them all many times. Don't like dressing up very much and as for being Scarlett how are you going to get that tiny waist?

Starling Sun 08-Mar-15 22:17:23

I have a sudden urge to be Mary Poppins. I think it's because of the accessories.

rosequartz Sun 08-Mar-15 22:24:45

Doesn't have to be a GrownUp Book then?

I'll be the Worst Witch.

Wheniwasyourage Mon 09-Mar-15 08:26:08

Some days I'm a dead ringer for Eeyore.

Lapwing Mon 09-Mar-15 08:46:53

Polgara (from the David Eddings fantasy books) as she was beautiful, wise and feisty.

pompa Mon 09-Mar-15 09:09:09

Sitting here in my black leather thong and whip. Now what was the name of that book ???

rosequartz Mon 09-Mar-15 10:47:33

The book was called 'How to Stop a Thread in One Easy Post' pompa!

Aka '50 Shades of Grandads - A Guide to Hair Dye For Men over 50'

Stansgran Mon 09-Mar-15 11:23:45

I would like to be Pooh as I got stuck rather like he did down Rabbit's hole last week.and the costume's easy. I would prefer Nanny Ogg but she' s taken.

loopylou Mon 09-Mar-15 11:32:20

You'll catch a cold pompa hmm
The way I feel today I'd be Eeyore........!

janerowena Mon 09-Mar-15 11:47:15

I love Nanny Ogg, but still think I would prefer to be the teller of the Arabian nights. Except I think I would have to wear some kind of warming cloth around my tummy. And those slippers would need to be made by Hotter. I would have to wear leggings under my diaphanous trousers too. And maybe a nice cashmere stole... Those jewelled bra tops are probably a bit draughty.

Ok, Nanny Ogg it is.

Galen Mon 09-Mar-15 11:48:33

1AM granny Ogg

janerowena Mon 09-Mar-15 11:52:57

grin Ok, I shall be your assistant then.

I never did manage to read all the books, although DBH&Son have every single one, but I did really love the ones with Nanny Ogg in.

Soutra Mon 09-Mar-15 12:08:59

Paola from the Brunetti books by Donna Leon. How can a woman combine so successfully academic career, brains, fantastic judgement and have no hangups about cooking a 3course lunch twice a day for her DH and DC?

pompa Mon 09-Mar-15 13:09:31

Half way through the very last Discworld book, Raising Steam, what will I read next. Been reading Discworld books for so long now.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 09-Mar-15 13:30:35

I hate the very thought of Terry Pratchett books. I think they are men's book.

grannyactivist Mon 09-Mar-15 14:27:10

I would be Babette, from Babette's Feast. A bit obscure perhaps - has anyone else read it or seen the film?
