I won a cake but........!

I once bid for a cake in a charity auction. It had the full works in the way of posh royal icing and I put it on one side for a couple of months till a special birthday arrived - I cut into it and found it was (had been) an ordinary sponge cake inside - it was an icing shell with the most extraordinary mould collection inside! Bit of a disappointment for the birthday boy!

DD3 made a really super cake for the tombola stall at the nursery fete by it was no where to be seen on that stall or any other stall. She was too embarrassed to ask where it had gone in case the staff had decided to have it with their after!

I won a cake once, in 1975 in a 'guess the weight of the cake competition' when we first moved to Leicester. It was presented to me by Lady Isobel Barnett- and as a furiner, I didn't have a clue who she was;) - until she was disgraced a few years later for shop-lifting.

Beware of raffled cakes me thinks!

An organisation I belonged to had raffles at their regular conferences. The same cake kept coming back, until we decided that it should be quietly disposed of. Need I say that by that time it was completely inedible and maybe always had been!

They probably knew who'd made it! It must have been a pretty awful cook for everyone to remember for so long - presumably the donor wasn't present?

When I won mine- I took it home- it was delish so no way was it going to be on another raffle!

I once entered a loaf of bread in a village show. It was the only entry and the judge only gave me second prize! Perhaps I should have donated it to the raffle
