Just wishing all Gnet a very happy Easter time, especially those who will be on their own next weekend, put your feet up, watch tv and eat a whole chocolate egg.

Apologies aprilrose didn't
mean to be rude.
I think that a new thread would be more appropriate.

Seven years it quite a long time.
There are posters on this thread that have sadly died.
Other posters have either left GN or name changed.

Will look out for your new thread smile

aprilrose Tue 29-Mar-22 15:28:42

I "Resurrected" it as I thought it was more appropriate here, since this is the thread where the original song was discussed and the words were placed.

Maybe I should start a new one? But some people wouldnt be pleased by that either?

Ali08 Tue 29-Mar-22 15:01:17

Is it that time already?
Although, that kind of figures.....

I know this is an old thread now but I found the music to "At Easter time the Lillies Fair...."

It follows When a Knight Won His spurs - about half way through the medley.

That must have been a shock Gagagran

I made me remember an incident years ago when one of the girls in the office where I worked kept a thick glass tumbler full of paper clips on her desk. One day she was typing away furiously and the tumbler exploded with a loud bang. Perhaps the pitch of the noise or the vibration - not sure what caused it!

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Apr-15 15:59:55

That was very strange Gagagran. Wonder why it exploded. Why not just fall apart at the crack? Glass is funny stuff. confused

I broke one of the pudding bowls from a set that was a wedding present yesterday. Tried to find a replacement online. All other pieces available pieces available. But no pudding bowls. sad

annodomini Mon 06-Apr-15 15:58:21

What an awful shock, Gagagran and sad to lose such a lovely heirloom bowl. I must inspect mine for cracks! A good thing you had a doctor on the premises at the time and obviously a lovely spread that made up for the loss of the fruit.

rosesarered Mon 06-Apr-15 15:10:35

What a rotten thing to happen, Gagagran. it was probably the cold fruit and the weight of it as it was cracked, that made it so spectacular, but what bad timing for you!
no fish for us at all this weekend, we had pork on the Friday, steaks on the Sat and a turkey crown and a cooked ham with roast veg on Sunday. Most of the family came to us, so it was tiring but nice.Pudding was a bread and butter pud by popular request and a special choc desser I always make.

Gagagran Mon 06-Apr-15 07:14:33

We had a lovely late lunch yesterday. Roast lamb, potatoes, parsnips, green beans, broccoli and carrots. All well received. The pudding was chocolate fudge cake for the chocolate lovers and Victoria sponge cake for the others, all accompanied by a large bowl of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and clotted cream. In any combination desired. Plus cheese.

I inherited, from my late MiL, a thick cut glass bowl which is only used on special occasions and I had filled this with the fruit. I picked it up from the side table to put on the dining table and with no warning it exploded
in my hands, shattering fruit and countless shards and pieces of glass all over the floor. I only realised I was hurt when I saw blood dripping onto the floor too.

DsiL is a Dr so sat me down with hand raised above my head then he and DD set to and cleared up the mess - and it was a mess. Tiny bits of glass everywhere. My cut is at the base of my thumb and is quite deep but held together with steri-strips. DH then told me that he had noticed a crack in his Mum's glass dish last time he washed it! It was a spectacular explosion and could have been a lot worse injury, not just for me!

There was lots of cake , cream and cheese left so no-one went hungry. It was a spectacular explosion and I had no idea cut glass would do that.

Not so far!

NanKate Sun 05-Apr-15 16:01:31

As long as you haven't turned green Mishap tbuwink

Mishap Sun 05-Apr-15 14:35:21

I have just stepped out of the front door for some air and in the 3 days I have been in bed, the hedges have turned green - amazing!

NanKate Sun 05-Apr-15 12:25:57

Hope you feel better soon Mishap the flu can knock you for 6. flowers

DH and myself have colds given to us kindly by our 2 lovely GSs who phoned us on FaceTime to show us the opening and scoffing lots of chocolate eggs. grin Thank heavens for all the latest technology to keep in touch with family.

Mishap Sun 05-Apr-15 11:32:21

Just surfaced and got dressed and washed after 3 days in bed with flu and high temperature. Temp still up a bit but I am on my feet; but feeling totally drained. I have missed all the fun of my DGC from up north visiting - darn!

Happy Easter Sunday to all our Gransnetters. tbusmile

11 hours ahead of the UK. I forgot that our clocks went back last night.

absent Sun 05-Apr-15 05:14:30

We're 12 hours ahead of you so the roast lamb, potatoes, parsnips and cabbage have been well and truly consumed. Eight of us for lunch today and a lot of fun it was too. Family, complete with chocolate rabbits and dinosaur chocolate eggs, have headed off home as the other grandparents are visiting this afternoon.

We have such a tiny kitchen in this temporary house that it looks like a bomb site but we are about two-thirds of the way through the washing up and putting away. The fridge is bursting with leftover cheese, the biscuit tins are bursting with leftover crackers and there seem to be at least three half-full jars of olives. I feel as if I shan't want to eat for a week at least. Back to normal – or what passes for normal – next week.

Happy Easter to all from California, where we are spending a month with DS1 and family. No sign of a hot cross bun unfortunately but there will be egg hunting in the morning and I made an Easter tree with the DGC. I have brought cream eggs for all as I don't think I could have got big chocolate eggs here in one piece and they don't seem to sell them here.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 04-Apr-15 22:55:04

We had ham at lunchtime yesterday! shock

Had fish for dinner.

NanKate Sat 04-Apr-15 21:45:13

I've never eaten meat on Good Friday to my knowledge. We had a delicious fish meal thanks to M and S plus potato dauphinois and mixed veg yesterday, delicious. Followed by lemon tart and blackberries.

I like following family traditions.

The M and S luxury hot cross buns are delicious. They are bound to be selling them off after the weekend. smile

Ana Sat 04-Apr-15 21:06:20

grin

Maggiemaybe Sat 04-Apr-15 21:04:28

Probably very wise, Ana smile. We usually have it on while we plough through the Sunday paper and only pay attention when there's a bit of shouting going on. Then we both look up and expect the other to know what's going on grin.

Ana Sat 04-Apr-15 20:50:54

I don't usually bother with the radio at all at the weekend except in the car. Haven't listened to the Archers for decades - I'm stuck in the days of Walter Gabriel I'm afraid!

Maggiemaybe Sat 04-Apr-15 20:35:06

Any Questions, I mean, not the TV programme!
