Charleygirl how on earth are you managing? Can you move around and look after yourself? Have you got a neighbour, friend or family member who will call in whilst you recover? What a dreadful experience

So sorry to hear that Charleygirl however will you cope? Can you get someone to come in for an hour or so a day? I know you have a cleaner, can she help out until you can cope better? not that will help really.

Charleygirl Poor you! That sound really nasty, particularly being on your own in the house.

Hire crutches or wheelchair from local Red Cross. When I was nonweightbearing for3/12 on L ankle, I used a manual wheelchair that I scooted around using other leg and arms.

Oh Charleygirl, I do hope you`re alright. How will you manage on your own, can you cope? Our local hospital would have behaved much better than that, they`re very good, in A & E and elsewhere.

Charleygirl I'm very sorry to read of your accident. It wasn't Tara who tripped you up was it? The reason I ask is that whenever I am headed towards the kitchen, our cat shoots silently in front of me assuming it must mean 'food'. She's very greedy and it is only by good luck that I have so far avoided tripping over her

Charleygirl Bless you! I also have to say that our local hospital, 'though small, would have been far more concerned and helpful. You do need to ask for assistance as you live alone. Bella is right, the cat in our house (Rory) manages to as good as upend me whenever I'm passing him. Yes! He too believes that I'm heading for his bowl and...he needs it topping up...like NOW!

I'm sad to learn that our Soutra is feeling very upset. I do not know the facts of the matter. All I ask is that she continues to pop into our kitchen from time to time. Please.

Judthepud I sympathise with you. Talk about feeling hot and bothered... so would any one of us given your experience. Feet up. Deep breaths. Relax.

OH the tennis. Wasn't the match between Serena and Heather a stunner. It seems such a pity that there had to be a loser. Heather was playing like a true champion. The crowd thought so too. Unbelievably exciting.

Hi all, thank you so much for your concern. I am managing okay, thanks. After my ankle op I was given 2 pairs of crutches and nobody wanted them back so I have one pair upstairs and the other down here. It was very painful walking without any protection so I have fitted my heel in a slipper and the remainder of my foot is on top. I have tied it in two places with an ancient crepe bandage. Very fetching but it does the trick, it is not quite so painful.

Luckily I have a downstairs loo and a stairlift. My cleaner has inconsiderately gone to Romania for 5 weeks holiday so the agency will sends a new one who is starting on Tuesday. Fortunately I am a hoarder so I will want for nothing except for the odd loaf of bread.

I have no relatives in this country- all are in Ireland (mother's side) but I have good friends- the problem being they are older than I am and many live many miles away eg Berwick and I live in London. I do have good neighbours but I never like to impose.

After my TKR i had somebody come 4 days after the cleaner for 2 hours and she did stuff such as changing bedlinen and putting washing in the machine and hanging it indoors before she left. I did think about that but there is no necessity, I can cope. the plus is that I may lose some weight because I do not feel hungry.

Thank goodness for on line shopping and that I am sufficiently computer literate to make full use of it. I have friends popping in tomorrow with a few essentials

I have an excellent excuse, after I return to the land of the washed, to sit down with my leg elevated and enjoy the tennis which I hope will be a corker like Heather's match, but I do not want Andy to stop my heart again. I have had sufficient frights this week.

Tara is spending most of the time outdoors which is fine. She did not rip me up- it was a pure accident but I do think that trying to save the family china helped me- I could have done worse injuries to myself.

My apologies for writing so much, you must all be asleep by now hearing of my woes. I think a care home on Monday but somewhere that takes in cats as well as me. Thanks again for your concern.

Charleygirl Thank you for updating us. A Granspal patrol sounds likes a very good idea. If you lived a lot closer, I would definitely offer my assistance. As for Andy...what's the betting that he puts all his fans through the usual mind-bending agonies of previous Wimbledons. I don't have the comfort of a Magnum to fall back on. We've already had two each this week.

I had no iceream yesterday but today I will sitting comfortably with a bowl of cherries watching Andy and others. There are two Magnums in the freezer but thankfully I do not feel like them yet so long may that last.

Charleygirl Pamper yourself. Pity that those Magnums have to remain in your freezer. I shall return later to catch up with you lot...time for me to take my seat and prepare for more thrills at Wimbles.

Charley girl, you must be VERY poorly to not fancy a magnum. Try to rest keep your foot elevated and pamper yourself (plenty of ice packs) and enjoy the tennis. Hope you recover quickly.

I've never tried a magnum. Rarely eat icecream and then only my homemade. Strawberry atm but if my new raspberry canes produce, then I'll be making raspberry. I've gooseberries coming along. Wonder what gooseberry icecream would be like?

I`ve got a pack in my freezer of MiniMagnums, 3 raspberry and 3 black coffee. I don`t usually buy Magnums, they`re a tad large for my liking, but these are an ideal size, and lovely flavours, very tasty.
I`m a bit annoyed. There were only 2 programmes on TV all day today that I wanted to see, and one was taken off for flipping Wimbledon! Sorry to all you tennis fans, but it bores me rigid, as do most sports.
Charleygirl, glad you`re OK, wish I could do something to help, but I`m a bit too far away.

Andy as usual had me sitting on the edge of my chair. I am glad that he took medical time out to get his thoughts together, it worked.

I have lost 4 kilos but I would not recommend this method of weight loss. A bowl of cherries and 2 tomatoes with cripsbread was all that I could manage yesterday.

Friends are popping round soon with essentials for me. I cannot believe that some idiot told me that I could drive. My common sense has not left me thank goodness.

I will take up Galen's idea of buying a collapsible wheelchair. I want to try it out rather than buying blindly on line so it will be on the list in a few weeks time. I had mega problems after my last TKR and I need the other knee done. My kitchen is too small to sit/dine in and I could not carry anything when using crutches.

A day off from tennis- I certainly need it!

number I had the best day thanks to Wimbledon. MacSporran surprised me when rootling in the freezer and "discovering" a Magnum for the Andy game. He had squirreled them away as a treat. Bless!

Galen when I was a wee girl, a lady called Mrs Barber (at the time in her 90s) used to sell home-made ice lollies. I believe they cost an old penny. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the flavours was gooseberry. I could eat a bowl of stewed gooseberries and real custard right this minute.

MacSporran called in to deliver our pal's Sunday papers earlier today. He has a form of dementia. Since his wife died recently, he has rapidly gone down hill. He has barely a word to say to anyone. He was wearing one slipper and a wellington. Carers visit four times each day. It seems that he will need to move into a care home in the not too distant future. We've shared such happy times together. It is difficult to believe that, from hereon, there will be no more memorable gatherings.

Charleygirl - so sorry to hear that you are in the wars. When I broke my ankle, I borrowed free of charge a collapsable wheelchair from the Red Cross. As I have a so-called galley kitchen ie long and thin, I found an old fashioned typists chair on wheels a very useful aid. Hope you are managing OK.

Falling apart at the seams, mind going blank. I mentioned on another post a while ago, I was stood on the landing andand my mind just went blank. I was trying to ' put my bra on ' and could I remember whether my bra did up inside out and turn up, outside in and up.

At least MacSporran doesn't have that to worry about
