I often look at quite common words with incredulity and think to myself 'is that REALLY a word; why have I never noticed before how peculiar it looks'. I know that there are the 'local' gransnet sites, but no one seems to frequent them much [unless it's just my local one] but I often feel that gransnet is a place where people WOULD get together and help local forum members if they could [sort of like how communities used to be], especially as a lot of people have become real proper friends, not just names on an internet site. The Birmingham meet up that we had a couple of years ago really kept me going at a time when I was very down in the dumps and I so look forward to the Edinburgh ones and our little local ones too. It's a good job I missed the Murray match #toomuchexcitementforoneday but I did catch the end of the British Grand Prix while I was at the gym [reckon I use up more calories doing exercise whilst watching it]. Charleygirl; I have a theory that when our bodies are healing themselves we often don't want to eat because digestion uses up a lot of energy; chicken soup is what's needed [or soup without the chicken if yo're a vegetarian].

Hello everybody - been out of action for some time with a family bereavement but I have tried to keep an eye on the "kitcheners" from across the water. It's good to get back to some normality and prepare for our Golden Wedding weekend coming up.

I have brought some teatime treats in for you all - strawberries and cream and some warm fluffy scones. Help yourselves! As always they are totally calorie free of course.

Gaga What a wonderful weekend celebration to look forward to. Those fluffy warm scones sound awfully tempting. As they're calorie-free I may need to taste several before passing judgement.

Tegan I attended the racing at Silverstone...just the once. I found it too noisy for my liking. Mind you, tennis can be more so, depending on the contestant who may need some encouragement.

Galen ...this is my final warning. I may need to eject you if you mention you know what ever again. Oh dear. I'm all of a fluster. MacSporran would be truly cross if he knew that the photo had been viewed by you lot. Will I ever live it down.

Don't worry soop, I'm sure it won't ever get mentioned again not for a while anyway!

I have the same problem with words, they just look strange sometimes!. Also, I keep losing cups of tea and forgetting to drink them Am I really that old?

I have to laugh- two very good friends of mine popped round today with a few items that I needed and I think that they forgot why they did it because I was the one up and making the coffee etc!

One of my fan club of three was 5 years old today and I was given a beautiful slice of his birthday cake. I must ask his sister if it was a Polish cake. I have had a small piece and it was very different from other birthday cakes I have enjoyed.

I must remember to switch on the fan tonight for Tara my cat- she does appreciate it! She is in the garden enjoying the last rays of sunshine.

Galen I did mean to use the word "eject"...I have in mind to send you into orbit by means of a supersonic catapult. I am joking...just a little.

Charleygirl Your post made me titter. Try to find out what type of cake you were treated to. As for Tara. She is obviously pampered as much as Rory. Cats are masters of the art of being considered worthy of extraordinary tender loving care. As Rory lay stretched out on the best bedcover, I said to him...anyone would think that you are special. He opened one eye (just a fraction), spread his toes and whipped his tail into a becoming lasso around his back legs. Then, he brings his front legs up (much like a dog does when begging for a bone) and purrs (loudly). We call this pose his "I'm a little defenceless kitten look. I do not know for sure which of us is dafter...MacSporran seems to think that it isn't Rory.

We are in for a feast of wonderful Wimbledon matches today. Alas, no Magnum treat lurking in the freezer. I have checked.

I have to be out until 4.30 today will I miss him? Can I have my magnum now instead? [Rory begging expression on face] emoticon

soop MacSporran will class me in the same cat club as yourself. I switched the fan on when I went to bed last night. Tara joined me for a few cuddles then left. When I went to the loo during the night, I switched off the fan as Tara had retired to her own room and was very comfortable. I had switched it on for her!

I cannot wait for today's matches. I have around 45 minutes to tidy up and have an early lunch while watching play. No doubt Tara will pop in for a pit stop later.

My daughter promised a friend she would daily feed her cat whilst she was on holiday for 2 weeks.

This she duly did and actually became quite fond of her new found feline friend.

When her friend came home they were chatting in the kitchen and the dear little thing came through the cat flap.

Her friend said shoo and chased it out. Funny my daughter thought. Her friend proceeded to say, "That b----y cat from up the road is a right royal pain ".

My daughter to this day cannot tell the difference between the 2 cats.

Perhaps Rory's dad had a very wondering eye.

I agree, a very good match. I hope my neighbours did not hear me giving so much advice to Andy. As usual he made my heart stop more than once. I presume that my heart and brain can rest now until Wednesday.

I am just back from the hospital and am to start the injections (into the eye ) next Monday. V nice consultant and he was very positive about the future as I may be suitable for laser treatment after a course of injections.

Hello all. Just popping in before making spag bol for DGSs to let you know my baby DGD, a week old tonight, now has a name. Rose Katherine Anna. Last 2 names for her Mum's sisters so that there is no offence caused .
I think she will be known as Rosie. Going back next week to see how she has grown.

Annsixty glad to hear you have had positive news but the thought of injections in the eye makes me shudder. I'm not good with eyes! Good luck with it and hope it works.
