It sounds utterly delightful - enjoy!

I think that's lovely. But I'd be careful about reading the book to her; I believe it's quite dark.

....I hope my little granddaughter likes something similar...grandson number two is just obsessed with Spiderman and I can summon up no interest in it .

My DGD must have been about four when she came to visit me just as I had put a recording of the Pirates of Penzance on TV. It was recorded live by the Australian Opera Company, and starred Jon English as the Pirate King. My DGD thought it was hilarious, and begged her mother to record it on her TV. Fortunately BBC 4 did a rerun so my DD was able to do so.
Mary Poppins is lovely, she could have chosen something much worse to watch over and over.

My dgs loved Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty. Now at 7 her favourite is Seven Brides for Seven Brothers....

What is the difference between a 4 year wearing a Belle, Frozen , Snow White outfit to another choosing Mary Poppins. The only deffierence I can think of is the others are commercially available to buy where as Mary Poppins requires a child to use her imagination more to create the image. That surely is a positive not a negative .

I think I would sit back , enjoy the moment , it won't last for long maybe and she will be into something else. She must be amusing to watch .

It's possible you have a budding theatre star.

Mary Poppins, the stage show, is coming to Birmingham next year. Last time it was here I went with DD and DGD (who was about 9 at the time). I didn't have high hopes for the show and my DGD hadn't really heard of Mary Poppins but it was absolutely wonderful. The dancing and special effects were unbelievable. As we were leaving the theatre DGD said 'I've got a funny feeling in my tummy'. Her mum explained that it was adrenalin. Marvellous show.

I'll definately go to that; may combine it with a stay in the 'back to backs' which is what we resolved to do when we saw War Horse in Brum the other year.

I think that what Lynda is worried about is the obsessiveness? if four year olds like things they often want the same thing over and over, they don't know that there is a whole world of things out there, and want what they ' know' as it's comfortable and safe, and they know what will happen.
if however, it's because it is Mary Poppins, and a bit old fashioned, then I say why not, children don't judge Old/ new and don't care about that.let her enjoy it.

Thanks for the info about the show KatyK. Will look out for it and maybe do a special outing - that is if she's still interested! No doubt there'll be a new obsession by then! And I'm not worried about it tbh. Amused really. And intrigued by the fact that it's something older and not all the glitzy new Disney stuff. And you're right Pogs it's great (and hilarious!) to see her 'dress up' using her imagination.
And lovely seeing that some things have stood the test of time. I'm wondering what other 'classic' things I can share with her.

I wouldn't be worried at all; it sounds like the sort of childhood that seems to be disappearing [all ipads and computer games etc]. My grandson was obsesed with Thomas the Tank engine for several years and then moved on to Harry Potter. A friends daughter was equally in love with the Wizard of Oz and had a pair of beautiful red shoes in her bedroom.

POGS and Tegan. It is on at the Birmingham Hippodrome from 9th March to 23rd April next year. They have already started selling tickets so I'm not sure how many are left. I would just like to add that the production we saw was fantastic so I am assuming that this one will be too. However I always worry about recommending things to others in case they are disappointed! We recommended a holiday destination to someone once and they hated it so I am nervous of doing so again. We thought Mary Poppins was brilliant.

Grand daughter is 8 by the way so I have an excuse to go .

When 7 Dgs1 was besotted with Les Miserables and used to sing his way through the entire score. I once drove 70 miles with him singing it from the back seat-it echoed in my dreams for weeks
