Autumn

I don't like late summer, it's all prickles and nettles and dead grass, stings and bites and itchy spots. My little grandson went to pick an apple yesterday and got stung by a wasp, the garden is absolutely full of them.
Roll on autumn!

All in the mind I suppose:"Season of mists + mellow fruitfulness" + all that.

Kazzer, know what you mean, here we get drifts of leaves to clear up, which we duly do, then more, then more etc it seems to go on for a long time, although I do tell Mr Roses it keeps him fit.

Granjura, ah well, if you enjoy snow, then that explains your liking for Jan and Feb living where you do, although in recent years we have had a bit of snow here as well, just enough to make things miserable, not the feet thick joyous stuff!

Anyone with connections with The Almighty to get leaves ALL down in one go so I can see my garden?!

We have been very lucky here this Summer- lots of sunshine and lamost a drought for our farmers- so I don't feel robbed as autumn approaches. Today the sun has come back and so has the warmth- and the air is as clear as a bell. Last night was quite cold though, and I put a fleece over my Hybiscus that is about to flower.

I shall go out there tomorrow to see what mushrooms I can find ;)

Definitely autumnal again here in the East Midlands with a promise of a very wet weekend- off to golf again with all the wet gear safely stowed in the pockets of my bag. Is it time for the 10 tog duvet yet - hopefully not just yet.

I think Autumn is a melancholy season. The summer birds fly away, skeins of geese fly in across the sky, the mornings and evenings gradually become darker, and winter approaches. It is then that I long for spring. Even though I have a winter birthday, I love the summer. D15covery I did see the sunset, this photo doesn't really do it justice though.

Yep! Good old East Angular. We're so lucky with our warm, dry weather. This summer does seem to have flown past but we have lovely autumns - especially the week after the kids go back to school

It's fled by, even though here in east angular we have had very good weather and a good long summer. It always flies past too quickly though.

Back to school weather,car windows need wiping with condensation on them,heavy dew on the grass...love Autumn and spring ....have blinked and missed summer..

Yes, the light is now that golden autumnal light, even though it's still warm. I have been in shorts today, but it's dark much earlier and not always warm enough in the evenings to eat outside. Round about August 15th the light starts to change colour. If you count back from the summer equinox though, we are now equivalent to late April. We are warmed up, but cooling rapidly.

I think there is definitely a chill in the air in the mornings and evenings. It reminds me of a long time ago when my friend and I would cycle to work, and her favourite saying as the days became shorter was "It is very autumnal". Lovely friend, still with us, thank goodness.

I just went into my garden to hang out some clothes, and it was 27 degrees out there. Masses of butterflies around. So not Autumn yet.

rosesarered- I am a snow girl- and I just love January and February, lots of snow, crisp and cold and vast blue skies and so so bright- must say I didn't enjoy those 2 months in all the years I lived in the UK- in fact November to end of March were so glum.

The evening air definitely has a bite to it now. I love autumn, too, but not the darkening evenings

Coming back from swimming lesson yesterday my GS was kicking his feet through heaps of dead fallen leaves. "Nanny, it's like Autumn", he said. Please, not yet, I thought; I seem to have missed the Summer somehow this year! We picked blackberries on Monday but for the most part they are small this year. There are heaps of sloes coming on though. There were hardly any last year.

That was the wrong one.
