Gran or Nan?

I am a Gran in a long line of Grans. At our local Grandparent/grandchild group I am the only Gran, the others are Nan, Nana or Nanny. Does what DGCs choose to call their grandmothers sometimes down to regional variations? ie I think Nanny is a Midland term .

i have a unique name - panny pat.
my oldest grandaughter, now aged 13, couldn't pronounce granny pat when she was little so i landed up with panny pat.
now that's my official title and one which i'm extremely pleased, and proud, to have.
i have four grandaughters and hopefully they'll all call me that although the two youngest are a big young at the moment.

I am Nana to my two GC but I also answer to Nanny or Nan. I don't really care what they call me, I love them both so much and just feel lucky to have grandchildren.

My children, grandchildren, husband and everyone else I know call me by my actual name.
I call myself by my own name and call my husband, grandchildren, mother-in-law and all my friends by THEIR own names.
I see no need to have a title instead of a name. I know it's not for everyone but, after all, I don't refer to my children as "daughter" or "son" - nor to my husband as "husband".
I do think, however, that the actual name used is less important than the love behind it.

I'm Nanna and my hubby was pumpkins because grand daughter couldn't say grampy. He is now Gampy so she's moving in the right direction. She can't say her name (Isabelle) so calls herself Apples.

Am I the only one confused by all of the abbreviations in posts. Some are apparent, OH for instance, but SIL? sister in law, son in law? And ddg1 etc? confused

I'm Nangie, part nan and part my name. I love it when my DGD calls me that and I'm looking forward to being called it by the baby twins when they're old enough.

Solitaire There used to be a thread with a list of abbreviations but the search doesn't bring it up.
I think what you are querying is DGD1 which would be dear granddaughter No1 as in your 1st born granddaughter I have DGS1 and DGS2 (grandsons)
SO significant other
DP dear partner
SiL is indeed either sister in law or son on law
BiL brother in law
MiL mother in law

Thank you Nina, I've found the thread under 'acronyms' but I might stick with eldest son etc. :0)

I am Mamar-my granddaughter couldn't say Grandma, and anyway I like it!Her brothers have both taken it on board so that's fine. However.....they now live in France,so we have great mixes of Maman and Mamar.Oh hum..

I am Nana Val and d.I.l's mum is Nanny Sylvie. To be called Grandma is very ageing in my opinion. As the grandchildren have got older it has been shortened to Nan.

My grandson calls me nanoo, lately it,s been grangema or grangey. It,s different!, but he only does it indoors, not when there's a lot of people around

I'm Oma and I love it. Easy for little ones to say and the look of delight on their faces when they master it is lovely

There are three grandmothers in the family so when DGD was born Nanny (not that I wanted that anyway) was taken by one GM and Grandma was taken by the other so then we were last in the name decision. As my children call me Mumsie (I have no idea why) I became GrandMumsie, shortened to Gramsie.

I have loved reading the different names we are all called, as my father once said you can call me anything you like as long as you don't call me late for supper!!

Bumpa to grandchildren - Fluffy to newly acquired step grandchildren - (whose mother does not want me having grandmother status) -
