My mum strikes again!

Mum's 98 & has Alzheimer's. There's my oldest brother then my sister then me. My brother has always been mum's favourite. As sisters we tease him, of course, but it's hard sometimes. I really hope that she remembers us til the end tho.

I've mentioned before that my Mum has told me that her daughter NEVER comes to see her. Only one of my brothers has children and then only one. It was only recently that Mum started being proud of mine but only for the reflected glory, as in ' I have 6 grandchildren, 5 of them my daughter's and I've got 6 greatgrandchildren'.

The songs my Mum was singing included lots of things like 'When the Saints', 'She'll be coming round the Mountain', 'Knees Up Mother Brown', as well as some hymns. It was lovely to see them enjoying themselves and I joined in.

t is SO like my mother! My sisters' birthday, when adult of course, were a major production for presents and stuff - mine? forget it! And ditto for my poor children - that's where it really ranckled. But I was never brave enough to say anything

The last coherent thing my mother said to me was "I know you, don't I? I always liked you". She didn't seem to have any idea I was her daughter at that point and she had never been very good at showing affection, so I treasure the memory.

By the way, Kitty, I'm glad your mum and the other ladies had fun singing along. It's always been one of my biggest fears that, should I get dementia, I will end up having to sing to songs from the fifties/sixties or listen to them all day long as that was my childhood period. I have told my children to put a sign round my neck saying " I hate the Beatles, I only listen to Springsteen".

No 'pearls' today sadly, mum having an off day but she had a lovely when I left her xx

MOnica It's not often you find a logical explanation for life as they know it.
There was certainly no explanation for life as mum saw it

For several months DA, with dementia, was convinced that her care home in Sussex was owned by the Great Western Railway (she had lived a lot of her life near Swindon). I agreed with her and felt I would soon sort it out.

I did, standing in the dining room chatting to a carer, I casually looked out of the window into the enclosed courtyard. All the rooms around the courtyard had patio doors onto the court and as the step down was quite steep a wide platform had been built all the way round with a white line along the edge. The courtyard was furnished with a lot of wrought iron garden furniture. DA, whose room faced the garden and glimpsed this courtyard from the dining area and in her confused state had interpreted the wide step, white line and furniture as a railways station. It was all quite reasonable really.

I have a friend with 2 sons and she thinks the sun shines out of them. She actually said it was worse for the Al Fayed family when that tragedy happened because they had lost a son!!
She now has 4 GC and was overjoyed when the first was a boy, he was followed by 3 girls, who she loves of course, but GS at 20 is still favourite.

I had the opposite happen - when my Mum was suffering from dementia (and in fact did not recognise me) she told one of the staff how much she loved her oldest DD (me!) - what a pity she never told me!!!

I have 2 brothers jingl! I don't feel more for my sons than my daughters. I have different favourites depending on who is irritating me least at any given moment!!

(I hope my daughters don't read that!)

OH kitty I hope you didn't take it to heart and isn't it what you have always suspected but of course its not very comforting to hear it is it?
