Relative freedom
Relative peace
Relative good health service etc

Anyone else?

Nobody has made fun of non-British members of Gransnet, Gracesgran. Unless, of course, you are non-British? grin

Bit of a non-pc way of putting it, btw. Defining a person by not being British could come over as a bit jingoistic.

I am still glad I started it.
I think it is nice that people like being whatever their nationality is.
I should imagine that 60% of whichever country's inhabitants are glad that they are the nationality that they are. The figure could be higher for all I know.

Anya. Pissing myself.
I can't bear to tell the flag that it's caused such consternation.

If I buy 1 veg this week, doesnt mean that I hate all the other veg in the shop.

Well said soon. Quite simple really, isn't it? confused

Indinana Mon 05-Oct-15 12:16:05

And may I add my sigh to Anya's too. This started out as such a lovely thread. sad

Anya Mon 05-Oct-15 12:14:27

If we ignore her she might go away.

As I have said before[though I realise you are not particularly talking about me], I would love to see posters posting a thread or post saying, I am glad to be Pakistani or Sri Lankan because
Why shouldnt they? Good for them. I might join them if I was Pakistani or whatever.

What on earth has xenophobia got to do with this.

Just because a person or many people are glad to be something, doesnt mean that they hate something else in any way, shape or form.
Why should it? There is no connection.

If I buy 1 veg this week, doesnt mean that I hate all the other veg in the shop.

Indinana Mon 05-Oct-15 12:12:43

Anya grin

Gracesgran Mon 05-Oct-15 12:12:06

Why should I not dare Jbf, it is true. I like the idea that Gransnet is becoming a go to destination for the media and I am horrified that I belong to and may be identified with such xenophobic comments as have been put on here.

petra Mon 05-Oct-15 12:10:06

Gracesgran. Are you serious? It's what we're famous for: ITS CALLED A SENSE OF HUMOUR. Now that's someone I really do feel sorry for. It's envied all over the world.

Anya Mon 05-Oct-15 12:07:53

That was to GG

Anya Mon 05-Oct-15 12:07:10

Sigh

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Oct-15 12:07:02

That is bloody ridiculous! How dare you! angry

Gracesgran Mon 05-Oct-15 12:03:54

I am so disappointed that you feel it is clever to make fun of none British members of Gransnet. Is it a Gransnet policy to exclude them? As I have said, being glad to live where you live is great; being xenophobic is not a pleasant characteristic.

Anya Mon 05-Oct-15 12:02:18

OK folks, we're all invited round to Indinana's for lunch grin

Would you like us to all come on separate days or perhaps en masse? Friday's quite good for me.

Indinana Mon 05-Oct-15 11:55:34

Oh Elegran I never have anyone come to lunch. I now feel deeply wounded that you should mention this here and highlight my disadvantaged lifestyle sad

petra Mon 05-Oct-15 11:50:57

Elegran. Thanks for that: having a good laugh now. I've had a word with the flag, and told him/her ( must get that right) that not everyone appreciates him/her. The flag said: I don't give a f..k, I know how great I am.

Elegran Mon 05-Oct-15 11:21:37

I really must leave this enjoyable thread about people who are glad to be who they are and go to the shops. I have someone coming to lunch and nothing in the fridge.

Elegran Mon 05-Oct-15 11:20:19

The threads showing the knitting that GNers have made should all be deleted too - so many of us can't knit a stitch (or we can't any more because our arthritic fingers won't let us - we shouldn't be put to the pain of seeing others succeeding)

Elegran Mon 05-Oct-15 11:18:04

Petra Rugby glorifies competition and success. Should it be banned in the interests of those who would rather play tennis/ watch Eastenders/hate being beaten at anything?

soontobe Mon 05-Oct-15 11:17:17

There is a great difference between what you are suggesting Soon and saying "I am glad to live in France, Pakistan or Sri Lanka"

Please explain

janeainsworth Mon 05-Oct-15 11:15:30

And what about the threads about comfy bras and knickers?
Presumably they exclude the men who venture onto Gransnet, because
any who dared to comment would immediately have a label attached to them.

Elegran Mon 05-Oct-15 11:14:34

Yes, that would be an interesting thread, jings

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Oct-15 11:13:41

Or any other nationality, of course!

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Oct-15 11:12:17

gracesgran it stands to reason that if someone is not British they could hardly contribute to a thread entitled "Why I am glad to be British". But starting another thread on here is very easy...........

I would be very interested to hear why someone is glad to be Pakistani or Chinese.
