Annoying supermarkets

Why can't they simply fit sliding doors to the fridges? It is such a stupid waste of electricity - would you leave your fridge door open at home? It is lunacy.
We found supermarkets in Canada very cold because of their obsession with air conditioning, which I hate as it is always set too chilly; not really necessary in the UK as we don't have their humidity levels.

It must be Health and Safety - or perhaps a directive from the EU.

I first noticed this ( very cold supermarkets) about 15 years ago, up to then, they were fine away from frozen food.Maybe it's an another blasted EU directive?Even in Summer I need a light jacket to venture in.

I find Asda is the worst. Was there today. Funnily enough my daughter lives in Texas and the supermarkets there are not as cold!

Shops and their management don't show a lot of common sense do they? Shoe and clothes shops have the heating on full blast with the door open maybe that is what is causing global warming?
Food shops being cool I can take, except in summer when I am not dressed for freezer cabinet temperatures.
Is there no happy medium?

I never go to our Sainsburys without a jacket in the summer. It is very cold in the freezer department. I feel sorry for the babies with their little bare feet.Have complained, no joy.

I complained about the cold in Waitrose yesterday. It was warmer outside- the air con was blasting down at the check out area. I said I would be back next week with a hat, gloves, scarf as well as my jacket. The aisles were okay.

M&S was quite warm today and it is a food store only.

Waitrose was not noticeably cold this morning. I love to linger in the cold aisles when the weather is really hot, though that's not likely to be an issue in the near future. [

From what I remember of supermarkets before DH banned me from them was that generally they were warm but you needed a coat to go near the freezers!

mrsmopp My ASDA is the same and a few times in the summer I went back to the car to get a jacket as I was so B cold.

Our former Co-op, now an Asda convenience store, had all cold cabinets with sliding doors on them. (It would help if the lazy shoppers would close them after use) but this local store is a more pleasant place to shop than the ASDA supermaket.

However, I still have to go to the bigger shop 6 miles away because the convenience store is really not vegetarian friendly.

All the 'chilled' aisles are cold in Asda, but absolutely freezing in Tesco! Iceland is actually the warmest of the lot...
