Get dressed up, have a look in the mirror and make your own mind up. DH's judgements are often unreliable I've found!

I think, for what it is worth, that it sounds ideal, my sort of outfit (having likewise failed to pursue the diet I planned when DD announced their wedding date in December.)

I know the feeling, it is daunting dressing for weddings. I had an awful time getting something for DS wedding last year. Clothes either too young or too frumpy. Women in shops can not be trusted either.IMO..

If you feel that you look good that is the battle won. If DH is less than supportive ask someone who may be more candid and trustworthy.
It could be he thinks he is being funny.......little emotional intelligence more like.

As long as I feel good about what I'm wearing, that's all that matters. Although I sometimes look back at photos and shake my head in a "What the hell were you thinking" kind of way.

Don't go in for the reveal in "Is this allright?" mode, oh no. Sashay in saying "This is my outfit and I feel like a million dollars in it".

'Don't worry dear, no-one is going to be looking at you' is DH's usual reassurance

I've seen the top and it is fabulous. Also saw the trousers you intended to wear, very nice as well.

Velvet trousers always look glam for the evening. Wear and enjoy!

What a load of old rat bags you lot are married to! Trust your own opinion- it is never wrong I am sure.

DH would always say I looked lovely, and mean it. So for more realistic advice I ask one or other of the DDs . They will always be candid.

Hubby sounds perfect to me too. Just remind him on the night you are glad the room is not well lit , so nobody can see who you brought along with you.

It sounds just right for an evening party, teetime. And if you feel comfortable in it, that's more than half the battle. What shoes are you wearing? I always feel that if my feet are happy, I am too. Is it the longevity of a marriage that makes husbands so tactless?

Some one up thread said they rely on their daughters which is what I do too although one or two of them can be a touch too truthful for my liking!

It sounds lovely, black velvet trousers are always my choice when I'm not sure. I like someone's suggestion of a wrap above, or long sparkly thin black scarf perhaps. They do break the silhouette.

Would he notice if you wandered into the room naked? Worth a try?

Your outfit sounds perfect, I stopped asking my husbands opinion after many years ago buying a floral jumpsuit which I loved but was unsure of wearing as it was so different to anything I Normally wore, before going out I asked the dreaded question does this look ok?, I took his non commital grunt as meaning yes, after a lovely evening out where I felt rather nice when we got home I said I'm glad I wore this, to which he replied I'm surprised you did as it made your bum look big!, needless to say I never wore it again, suppose that's why he is a ex!
