The 6th here, too. It's the Epiphany and in some other countries that's when the presents are exchanged. Decorations always had to be taken down on the 5 th before going to bed so that they would no longer be there on the 6 th.

It's the 6th in my book too, trisher! But as Ana says, we have the discussion every year

Oh dear, round here the trees go up so early there's going to be a shortage of reindeers very soon, and the elves will all be demanding overtime. I always thought 12th night was 6th Jan. Once upon a time schools never went back until after that date and some people always went to church because it's Epiphany- when the 3 kings arrived to visit Jesus.

Thirty years ago I remember my eldest saying to me when I collected
her from school...'mother why can't you dress like the other mums?' Now she is heading for 40 she doesn't mind my eccentric style...grins

I love this thread. It has always been my ambition to be eccentric and I hope I am on the way. I wear a pink Monster High hat when I'm out. I argue with cash machines and I sing (or dance) along to buskers. I played hopscotch on the paving stones with my DGD the other week but it nearly did my back in! For Halloween I dressed in black with a sparkly spider web cloak, a pink wig and a giant spider hat. (A few trick or treaters who knocked at the door were a little hesitant I must say.)

I might draw the line at onesies. As previously commented - toilet problems - and I have to get there a little more quickly these days. Is that too much information?!

Loved it. Made me chuckle. Need more stories like this.

You'd think parents of boys would think very carefully - it's more difficult for girls unless they keep their maiden name!

My late df had his idiosyncrasies as well, one of which was to measure the diameter of the hole in a clothes peg to ensure it fitted the washing line.

My mother was eccentric,she was Britains first,long distance lady lorry driver.She had a pet spider called Gregory in the top right hand side of the lorry windscreen.She was helping to build the M180 motorway and found a tiny abandoned puppy ,in the grass at the side of it.When anybody asked her what breed it was,she said 'Oh she's very rare,she's a Lincolnshire Spider hound.' Then she was frightened that someone may try and steal it.

I'm feeling humbuggish too downtoearth and as we are going to stay with DS and family and are not entertaining at home at all this festive season, my decs will be staying in hibernation in the loft.

I have decided to solve the problem of up/down this year....I am not putting up so no problem .....even more bah humbug this year

Once Boxing Day is over I'm itching to get the decorations put away. They are definitely gone by New Year. Usually put them up one week before Christmas. I feel they are appreciated more when just there for a short time.

We have this discussion on here every year - I always say 12th night's the 5th January, some agree and others insist it's the 4th!

I don't know phoenix, I always thought it was the 6th but someone told me that they must be down on the 5th

Now, rosequartz, the taking down thing, you say they should be taken down BY Twelfth Night, so should they be all down and packed away by midnight on the 4th? Or is the 5th ok?

(I always get confuddled by this, hence usually take them down New Years Day or on the 2nd)
