soop gave me a key so her you are, folks, the new extension. Plate of crumbly oatcakes on the side there with the coffee and tea pots.

My ex DiL with whom I have kept up a good relationship through trying hard and keeping my lip zipped came today with the M&S meal deal for us to enjoy. We have smoked salmon pearls, rack of lamb and some sort of luxury souffle.
Also included a bottle of Shiraz.
A Happy New Year to you all.

janeainsworth Thu 31-Dec-15 16:55:19

anno be careful when you are driving home. I got stopped by a rather unpleasant policeman for driving too slowly and not indicating that I was leaving a small roundabout when I was driving mrA and his mate home from the sailing club dinner recently. Apparently I should have approached the roundabout at 40mph, as that was the speed limit. hmm
Happy New Year all.

A guid New Year tae yin an all, and mony may ye see.

A Happy peaceful New Year to all you lovely kitcheners. All the best for the bells, as they say in these parts.

Lona Thu 31-Dec-15 17:13:40

Left overs with sausages for me! I shall be having a large G&T very soon and that will be the only excitement tonight!
I hope you are all safe from the wind and rain, and the awful floods.
Thank you all for the moral support and friendship in this very welcoming kitchen, and I wish everyone who pops in here a happy, peaceful 2016. Special thanks to soop, who I'm sure is a fairy godmother to us all, much love soop xx

Alea Thu 31-Dec-15 17:49:30

I would like to echo what Lona has said. The kitchen has been a haven in more than a few storms and we owe so much to its founder and hostess.
To you soop, macsporran and all the rest of you lot may I wish all possible health and contentment in 2016.
It may not always be plain sailing but with soop at the helm, it's "heave ho, me hearties! All aboard 2016!"

I have just suggested to OH that he should think about what to have for dinner. I actually fancy vege Lincolnshire sausages baked potatos and mushy peas.
In a minute I will float that suggestion and make him think about it as his idea.

loopylou Thu 31-Dec-15 18:16:12

Snap Nelliem, only with farm shop sausages ?

A Very Happy New Year to everyone in soop's kitchen and especially to soop aka the fairy godmother and definitely not a Widow Twankey! and MacSporran ? ? x

granjura Thu 31-Dec-15 19:09:18

On our own tonight after a fantastic week shared with DDs and GCs - far too much good eating and drinking ... Sil is a fantastic cook, and I am absolutely amazed at what a talented 'chefette' DD2 has become, wow.

Take away curry tonight- reading and a bit of telly- and hopefully a good sleep. OH has picked up DD1 and then DD2's cold- and combined with too much good drinking and eating, been snoring like a trooper. My own bed tonight- hurrah (lol). Bonne Année et santé à toutes- Jura (on our way home on Monday am, with an overnighter near Troyes). x

Happy New Year to all! Shared a bottle of Argentine Malbec with DH over a Spag Bol dinner! It was gorgeous! A gift from SiL. Not a great New Year's Eve person so guess I will take my book to bed as usual and wake up to 2016! Peace, Good Health and every good wish to you all. flowers

Bellanonna Thu 31-Dec-15 22:01:33

Bellanonna Thu 31-Dec-15 22:45:05

annsixty Thu 31-Dec-15 22:59:25

In bed now. A very happy new year to all soops Kitchener's.

Charleygirl Fri 01-Jan-16 09:57:04

I switched off my light before midnight as I was tired. A big mistake- it sounded like the start of WW3 at midnight. I had a look out the front and rear windows and there were at least 5 separate firework displays. Tara was not impressed and stayed by my side. I read until the cacophony stopped at 12.30am and Tara retired to her room. With luck that will be the end of it all.

AlieOxon Fri 01-Jan-16 11:57:46

I went to bed at 9, slept by 11 (deliberately), don't even know if there were fireworks here! Woke up at 2, wrote a depressive poem, read a while and went back to sleep.

I guess I will get used to this new year. It ought to feel like a new start....

dustyangel Fri 01-Jan-16 12:18:03

I hope you do have a much better year AlieO, and that all your family get back on an even and happy keel again.

A Happy and Healthy New Year to you all. We stayed in (with our colds and bad backs etc. grin) went to bed at our normal time and were still reading when the fireworks started. I couldn't resist getting up to look and DH joined me to see the lights and fireworks all along the coast. Didn't stay there long, it's a good job we haven't got any close neighbours to see me standing there in my fleece and nightie. blush

It's traditional to have fireworks at midnight here in Portugal but it wasn't in England when we left UK. It sounds strange to me. I suppose it started with the millennium celebrations.

Alea I hope you and Grace had a good night and she is feeling better.

moomin Fri 01-Jan-16 12:53:21

soop Fri 01-Jan-16 13:50:27

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!grin
It has taken an age to read all your comments.. I opened the kitchen door quietly...thinking you lovely lot would be feeling a tad sleepy. It is a treat to find so many Kitcheners oot and aboot.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your company. I shall be ever grateful to Gransnet for introducing you all into my life. flowers

AlieO A very special virtual hug from me to you.

Last evening MacSporran cooked a very tasty joint of lamb. We had mincemeat tart for "afters". I always wash the dishes. I enjoyed two glasses of sloe gin and MacS partook of a couple of drams of his favourite malt. We then watched Midsomer Murders and, after the ten o'clock news, we took to our beds. I read for fifteen minutes, and awoke at 8:30 this morning.

The day is crispy cold. In fact, I would swear that late yesterday evening, there was a brief flurry of snow.

We lit the fire after breakfast. We then watched the New Year's Day concert in Vienna. The music was joyful. The dancers were marvellous and the costumes were spectacular. Any other Kitcheners tune in to the concert? It is a very special event.

To all of you, in particular those of you who are lonely, sick or having to deal with bereavement or on-going family issues, I send my love and very best wishes for the year ahead.

ffinnochio Fri 01-Jan-16 13:59:45

Cheers, anno , and to all other kitcheners. I don't pop in as much as many of you, but still feel a part of soop's gang!
I've just returned from London visiting family. It's been over a year since I'd last seen my youngest granddaughter, and it was marvellous. smile

Wishing you all a peaceful 2016.

ffinnochio Fri 01-Jan-16 14:02:54

Crossed posts, so cheers to you too, soop! Hope to meet up with you in the Spring - fingers crossed. smile
