It wasn't me !

My lovely old Mum used to be able to silence my contentious and disputatious Dad with a look, accompanied by the phrase - "If you say so, it is so". Shut him up many a time! Well done Mum!

Nor mine. These posts have made me laugh out loud. All so familiar. Re the not finding things I always treat this as a challenge and nearly always end up with the " lost" item held triumphantly aloft. He is always amazed. I I sometimes think he thinks I've hidden it so that I can find it. Not so. I just know his funny foibles about putting things in odd places.

It's like herding cats or pushing smoke down a chimney isn't it?

Another conversation yesterday...

DH.....'I've just seen ** and I've arranged to go halves on a skip.
Me ( not having heard the name).. 'who?'
DH.....A skip
Me.....'NO, who ?
DH.....'A SKIP.
Me.....NO, WHO?
DH....Oh, **
Me....When?
DH....Next w/end.
Me ...' When do you think we will have time to clear out the loft and garage in the next week?'
DH... 'Well , we won't share one then.'
Me...But, you've told her we will.
DH...No, I just said we might be able to.'

Why is it so difficult ?

I try so hard not to say it is a 'man thing' but it is oh so true.

Argument this very night - DS2 wanted to borrow my drill. I have kept one drill (won't advertise but begins with B&D) because the box has a useful, large section to store the drill bits. Last time he borrowed it he said it did not work so I bought a new one (different brand beginning with W which was on offer at the time). I then tried the old drill and it worked - thus I kept it in aforementioned box. I now had two drills. DS2 tried the old drill today and again it did not work. I will now get rid of it.

DS3 insisted that I never had a W drill. It was a B & D which was in his van. Actually this was one he bought when he started this job.

Big argument about to commence! I retreat and say 'Ok I'm wrong. I never bought a W drill ( even though I know I did and clearly it has been borrowed!)' It was not worth my energy to argue. Men are always right!

Am I a disgrace to womankind or a peacemaker?

And another thing. Men can't look for anything either. DH will ask, "have we got ?", I will tell him which cupboard it's in. He'll say he can't find it. I will go and look, and there it is, just behind something. If it isn't staring him in the face, he can't see it!

'Minister' ?

I have one of those as well. Nothing is ever his fault. He makes up the most improbable lies.

Man thing!
I always say, "I expect you're right" because there is no point in anything else. Eventually DH will say sorry and then I just smile and say," Good job I love you!" and we just laugh.

My OH is to be heard several times a day complaining "this bloody thing's not working", when what he actually means is "I don't know how to use this properly".

At least it's consistent grumppa!

Jane Austen mocks men who refuse to ask for directions in Mansfield Park, and men who exaggerate how quickly they can drive/ride from A to B in Northanger Abbey. We're never going to change!

My DH is utterly illiterate when it comes to computer technology, but he won't accept it. Just purchased a new minister and grandson has provided us with a computer he has built. Of course DH can't get it to work and has the grump. I said I would text DS which isn't right either so we are at the moment at a stalemate

My DH is never wrong either. Weird isn't it? Another thing, he refuses to ask for directions. I often wanted to check our bearings on country walks but if we met someone coming towards us, he'd hiss at me to say nothing. Same thing when driving. I'll always stick my head out of the window to ask for directions, but he wouldn't dream of it and will happily go miles of of his (our) way rather than ask. What's wrong with asking? And keeping to the OT, with admitting you're wrong? I always do!

DH will often deny his guilt until I point out for what ever reason it had to be him !
He's not adverse to saying sorry though.

My youngest brother started denying his involvement in stuff from the age of three or four. When he banged and clattered on the bathroom door and my mother, from within, said "Who's that?" his response loud and clear was: "Not me!"

My otherwise lovely OH is never wrong! It's a male ego thing. ?

Lived with that attitude for 35 years. It's inconceivable to him that he could be wrong. I just work round it. Drives my Daughter mad.

Advice from my mother on my wedding day: Remember that your husband is always right, even when he's wrong!
It has stood me in good stead I will say!

A few weeks ago DH decided to hoover up the mess he'd made when I was out.
I got the vacuum cleaner out later to hoover the landing but there was multicoloured wool tightly wound around the brushes.....so tight I couldn't shift them.
I asked him to get the wool off, and said hadn't he noticed he'd hoovered up the sleeve of a jumper I was knitting for DGS?
Not only did he say he hadn't done it, when I pointed out I'd only got the knitting out the cupboard last night and I hadn't hoovered that day, but then tried to blame dd who I'd been to pick up at the station!

Bless him through gritted teeth!
