So, I broached the idea of a weekend away "why would I want to do that I spend half my life in hotels for work" 
Thinking of something from the Barbour hat/coat/scarf/accessories range now
How about a weekend away in a nudist colony or a retreat of some sort? A yoga weekend or working on a farm.
Does he play any instruments? Did he play as a youngster and still craves taking it back up?
Model railway, model cars, a model, lol.
Is he into photography? Maybe a camera or binoculars if into bird watching (them models again, 
) or a telescope if into star gazing or name a star after him.
I bought my son some Gorilla Snot last year, it's for guitar playing and keeps your fingers from slipping on the strings. He was not impressed! lol This year he has some jelly boobs!
Same problem here, and a parachute jump wouldn't be gratefully accepted (been there, done that ), used to go to work in a helicopter, doesn't read fiction, rarely wears cufflinks these days, buys his own whisky .......

I have the same dilemma "nothing", however if he was to receive "nothing" I'd never hear the end of it. I'm thinking weekend break at the moment but manly as opposed to spa. Any other suggestions grestly appreciated.
Bottle of whisky is alway the default gift for my other half if I'm struggling to think of anything new. To be honest, the only gift he gets excited about is the calendar of photos of the grandkids my son and dil put together for us. Everything else is a bonus
What about cufflinks - they can never have enough cufflinks, no? Or posh pens?
