How can it be liquorish if it ends in 'ice'? Where does the 'ish' come in? And why are liquorice allsorts smaller now than they used to be? And you don't get many Berties either, now! No, i'm not Scottish - I wouldn't make a very good Scot, i'm afraid; I don't like bagpipes!
Just one of those eccentricities of our language I think greyduster. Allsorts are definitely not as good as they were, I agree. Another gripe of mine is that flying saucers contain so much less sherbet.
