New use for knicker elastic!

Bellanonna - we've got one simply called Poo and another called The Little Mole Who Knew It Was None of his Business. I think I've also seen other titles on the subject and mused how unthinkable all these books would have been when I was small!

I always heard those bloomers referred to as ETBs--elastic top and bottom.

There's also a book called The Queen's Knickers by Nicholas Allen.
When my mum was pegging her knickers on the washing line my Dad used to say, " Mum's pegging out her Alex James's".

Many threads ago a poster mentioned a book for children about animals pooing. I'm thinking about 6 months ago. Does anyone remember what it was called? My 3 yr old GC cousins would love that. The Pigs in Pants game and the Pants book also sound fun. Children love naughty humour and I love to hear the guffaws.

There's a hilarious children's book called 'Pants', much loved by my GC when younger - say 3 - 6. Easily found on you-know-where.

One of my grannies wore woolly 'combies'. When she came to visit, my mum was afraid that neighbours would think that those monstrosities on the washing line belonged to her. The other granny wore almost knee length knickers in a shiny fabric which I think was known as 'celanese'.

Sounds excellent. Right up my GCs (and my own) street!

I found a wonderful board-type game for my GC this Christmas - it is called "Pigs in Pants" and players have to accumulate knickers for their pig. It involves a great deal of shouting "I'm going to pinch your pants/nick you knickers!" As you can imagine, they loved it!

It does sound fabulously frivolous. Pants are much more sensible. Mind you Willmapantsfit doesn't have quite the same ring to it!

I love the word knickers! It's one of those words that feels like it will annoy some people. Another is frock - it's like I'm being common!

My Mum used to call those big pink bloomers "Passion Killers"!

My great aunt used to wear woollen combinations....like a onesie with buttons in the gusset for peeing! But then she wore drawers over the top I think!! She was a spinster - I wonder why??!!

None of my knickers has the kind of elastic you can remove without destroying the garment.

'Britches'! Haven't heard that word since my GM died, 34 years ago. She wore horrible wishy-washy pink long-legged knickers. She was about 5 stone dripping wet and they were voluminous - I can see them hanging on her washing line or above the Rayburn if it was raining.

I remember stepping out of a pair of French knickers in the middle of Bath , I left them and carried on walking.

I always have a nappy pin in my handbag ever since my youngest stopped wearing nappies - she's 34 now! Didn't know why and often thought I should throw it away - now I know why I need it - incase my "britches" fall down while walking my dog!! Happy new year everyone.

My daughter is resuming her travels in a couple of weeks and one of the things she said she must take with her this time was ‘safety pins’!!

Think that's what one granny said..britches...Think the other one said drawers....they were warming to the knees as I 'remember..i love the word knickers,it has a slightly naughty ring to it. GD insists on calling them pants and gets mildly cross with me.

This has made me laugh. My mother never called them knickers or pants - always britches. It always sounded like a rude word to me.

downtoearth you must be related to DH! His mother told me that her mother had the same thing happen to her but just swept the offending garment into her handbag and carried on as if nothing had happened.
