I started a thread on this too but just asked for it to be deleted.
I had no idea he was suffering from cancer? Nor did I know about Bowie being ill until he died. Not that they need to tell everyone I know but still amazing that in this day of such invasion of privacy there were able to keep their illnesses between them and their families. Very sad.
petit I was writing on your thread and going to delete this.
Its very sad such a wonderful actor- he was I understand a very private man and didn't enjoy premiers and interviews etc. I first saw him in Barchester Chronicles and he was mesmerising then. I was lucky enough to see him on stage in Separate Tables - wonderful experience. RIP Alan xxx
Like nina I felt sure I'd read recently that he was ill, but I have no idea where I might have seen that. A great loss to the thespian world. RIP Alan Rickman
He seemed such a nice man whenever I've seen him interviewed. Truly, Madly, Deeply was the first thing I remember seeing him in, too. I loved him ever after.
DD2 sat beside him a few years ago at some theatre dinner and I was madly jealous. She said he was charming, witty and thoroughly nice. She had the sense not to depress him by saying her mum fancied him rotten!
