I have just watched an episode of Tracy Ullman on catch up. She does a very good take off of Camilla. But it did make think that in the not so distant future (hopefully not too soon) we will be having a new King Our queen has been steadfast at the helm, with both hands on the wheel. I'm sure she has taken advice from her husband and consort, but ultimately her own decisions. I think that might be a bit different when Charles becomes King as he seems to rely quite a bit on his wife. So even though he may be at the helm there may be a third hand on the wheel. So does is it matter whether Camilla is Queen or Consort
I think Camilla is quite 'princess like'. She always looks smart. I was surprised at DHs reaction :he's completely against Camilla being Queen. I didn't think men were much bothered about it. He still thinks Diana was ill used by Charles and by association by Camilla too. I suspect that feeling still permeates a great deal of the population. Uncool to think it but not necessarily inaccurate.
I think this is not just because Diana's death was a long time ago- but because so many now know more about the full story, and how Charles, and Camilla, were also great victims of the monarchy's ambitions. I so often wonder how many people would feel differently if she was more physically attractive and 'Princess' like.
Charles is next in line, so there is no question ( unless he was too ill to take it on) of William being the next monarch. I think the public will be ok with Camilla being called Queen ( yes it would be Queen Consort) as it is a long time since Diana died. Personally speaking, I don't really care too much.
I'm not a huge fan, of Russell or Charles, but a TV interview with Russell Grant in the 80s has stuck in my mind, when he stated that Charles would never be king. Mind you, I could have dreamt it, as I've never seen any reference to it since
merlot you might be surprised at the numbers who join in our alternative street parties and 'Not watching the wedding/ funeral/ coronation on TV' picnics, events etc!
Ah but do all these countries know how to party, Penstemmon? They're probably thinking, What is it this time? Oh, she's ninety.....Have we been invited??
Even the most grumpy republicans either go with the flow or lock themselves in a cupboard when the bunting comes out and the band strikes up.
It is an irrelevance to me. It would be best if, at the queen's death, the monarchy became the senior aristos. and we stopped all the state pomp and nonsense.
All the twaddle about tourism ...I visit all sorts of countries that do not have a ruling monarchy... I still can visit the historic palaces etc, without there needing to be a 'ruling' monarch!
I believe she and Charles have redeemed themselves so far as most people are concerned. As we have a monarchy which the majority believe should continue, I agree with those who say Charles has served his apprenticeship. I still feel it's a great pity he and Camilla didn't stay together during their youthful relationship.
I have heard that she's down to earth and a nice person. Bottom line I won't be glued to the TV watching Charles coronation as I would if it was William. Whatever. Que sera sera.
Definitely Queen Consort. And I think Charles will make a good King, though I hope not yet. He has indeed served a long apprenticeship and has been a diligent and imaginative POW (though I take the point about that particular title Anniebach). I don't think William is anywhere near ready to become king, nor do I think he has any desire to do so. He has a lot still to learn and I'm not convinced the monarchy will endure after Charles, for all sorts of reasons.
I think she has redeemed herself and would be a worthy Queen Consort.
Not sure about the name Queen Camilla though, but her second name is Rosemary - Queen Rosemary sounds like someone from Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom.
