I was affected by this yesterday afternoon, kept trying, because occasionally I get "no internet access" come up but then it appears after a minute or so, but yesterday was something else. When I heard the news I knew why. I hate being without the internet now, an addiction or what shock

We heard on the local news today that BT internet has been down in Dunkeswell, a village in Devon, for a week and is unlikely to be back up and running for another two weeks. It is causing absolute mayhem for local businesses - the village shop is having to do manual orders which are taking 2 hours longer than usual. Plus, of course, they are unable to process any credit/debit card transactions, so this is having an adverse effect on trade.
It certainly demonstrates just how dependent we have become on the internet.

I phoned bt yesterday as broadband kept cutting out. Was told to phone back in 4 hours and they couldn't even record that I had made a complaint as "Nothing is working at this end."

"With the UK economy now so reliant on its internet infrastructure, this BIG report contends that our future is being held back by systemic underinvestment stemming from the ‘natural monopoly’ of BT and Openreach. The report concludes that the current situation is stifling competition, hurting our constituents and in the process limiting Britain’s business and economic potential."

From the British Infrastructure Group's report Broadbad : www.shapps.com/2016/01/big/

Didn't manage to get mine back on until this morning. The recorded message of problem areas didn't include mine, and I heard nothing on the radio. Trouble is I can't remember what I did to start it up again, so will be no wiser if it happens again.

Came home from coffee with a friend yesterday afternoon to find DH tearing his hair out and cables strewn all over the hall! I had heard about the outage on the car radio but it didn't improve his temper any when I told him! He works from home so had to spend a couple of hours last night catching up....cue Mr Grumpy again!

I heard on the news this am that TalkTalk also had problems. I am with Plusnet which is part of BT and no problems although a tad slow.

Oddly enough, I've not been able to access emails this evening, Elrel. I'm with Virgin, too.

We're BT for both too but lost the Internet for over an hour which caused big problems for OH who works from home. Glad to discover it wasn't just us though ... We like to share the pain! wink

We are with BT for phone and internet we haven't had any problems thank goodness.

Elrel Tue 02-Feb-16 20:28:29

No internet for me either on Sunday and most of Monday. I thought it was my fault. Mine is Virgin not bt.
