Alea sorry to hear your lodgers have moved on, I've never been fortunate enough to see a hedgehog up close and would love to.

I was hoping for a day locked in my crafting studio but that is not to be . We have some people coming who want to look at our decorators work and we're very happy to recommend him.

Then our eldest daughter is bringing our 9 yr old granddaughter and 6 year old grandson and their latest addition - a 10 week old springer puppy called Holly to visit us and of course Master Sam.

I foresee a day of chaos and snacks ( where do children put all that food???) and possibly a few little accidents from the pup. Luckily the new carpet will be laid in about 5 weeks so it's not a huge trauma and I am hoping to get them all in the garden with my camera

soop there will be a few words said and we do not usually do that on this thread, if we hear that you have had a hoover, mop or duster in your hand. You should be tucked up in bed getting rid of this lurgy.

I hope that you are feeling marginally better today and that you made some dosh on ebay.

nanandgrampy Last summer OH found three apparently abandoned baby hedgehogs in a bush in our front garden. We decided to leave them alone but when DiL came to collect the GCs she said she'd just seen a baby hedgehog scuttling across the road!! We decided to step in and put all three into a box with some cat food and water. Phoned an animal rescue place that asked us three questions
1. How big are they (the size of a cricket ball)
2.Can they roll into a ball (yes)
3.Have they got teeth? (Don't know!)
They told us that they would be weaned so we should liberate them at night as far from a road as possible. We chose the far end of our neighbour's garden which backs onto fields. A few days later the neighbours found a dead hedgehog in the middle of their lawn. Sad, but about six weeks later I saw a middle-sized hedgehog crossing the road to our front garden. Will they never learn? Hope that it was one of ours and that it's still alive. At least they haven't had a hard winter to contend with. I would have attached a photo but it's on my other camera and I'm a bit of a technophobe.

Charleyg I have popped in in order to catch up with your recent activities and to check on my small fortune of £1.99. I'm dizzy with excitement. Can you believe that two new garments with labels still attached (offered at a ridiculously low price of £5.00,) remain unsold... Anyway, the remainder have a fixed price with three further weeks before the auction closes. After which, I give all unsold garments to charity. I sometimes think that if we lived in a well populated location I could open a wee Pre-Loved clothing shop.

Dear oldgoat and Alea I would have loved to have seen the baby hedgehogs. Since we moved here we've seen several baby deer and, at one time, an abundance of feral kittens (although the latter are no longer a problem since Rory had his manhood "fixed.")

Lona I am wearing my winceyette tartan pj's because, as I'm housebound, they are sensible and comfy an not at all "classy" like what I am.

NanaandGrampy there are no coughing birds in our garden. We have a few that could be classed as obese. MacSporran is very generous with the rations.

Rory sat with a solemn expression on his face as MacS rolled a wee ball across the floor. No other reaction was recorded. MacS bent down to retrieve the ball and remarked...'Rory isn't a game-player. He's far too intelligent.'

Throat remains sore. Headache bearable. Chesty cough grim. If it (chest) doesn't improve by Monday, I shall make an appointment. It was 15 months ago that a similar infection became pneumonia. One big difference...I still have a good appetite and I haven't been hallucinating.

I shall now take a quick look at Facebook. Then I'm away to do the crossword and do as I'm told

Dreich day here, nothing special planned except curling up on the sofa with a good book.

Just booked flights for FIL and his brother to come and stay for a week in May - less than £60 return in total for the two! Not sure that I like air fares being so low for two reasons. Firstly the pollution is not good and secondly too many people come and stay! The week there are here will be our holiday for the year and if I was being very honest I can think of better things to do with a week off. It is OH's step father and they never really got on until the past few years and I can't remember meeting his brother before. Oh well the things one does for families.

I had a skirt with labels on which I didn't want and I mentioned it on a thread on GN, only as a joke really, but someone said they wanted it so I asked them to make a donation to my favourite charity. Sometimes eBay is not worth the trouble.

OH is just doing cheese on toast for lunch so I am off to eat it.

soop I nearly choked over my lunch when I read that MacS thinks that Rory is too intelligent to play a ball game. Bone idle would be my description of Rory and we have not been introduced!

Are you going to save that money or have a wild day out when you are feeling better again? It does not appear to be worth the bother putting clothes on ebay.

Mia is off her food today, VERY unusual. 3 weeks ago she was vaccinated and wormed, and she was off her food for a day and a half afterwards, we thought it was the wormer, but yesterday she had the second half of her vaccination, so it looks s if that`s the cause. It just isn`t "normal" for Mia not to be asking for food 24/7!

What a gorgeous puppy!

Holly is beautiful- I hope that she managed to get outside without leaving too many dribbles or worse.

soop if you are unable to say hello we do understand- you must rest to get better, housework will wait. I hope that you are having a couple of drams each evening- that may help I hope. Does Rory keep you company or does he stay with his lord and master?

Our 3 daughters have June, Margaret and Elizabeth, but for middle names.

Late birthday wishes to Alea's DD1. That is a beautiful photograph.

I once looked after an underweight young hedgehog for the winter. The people before us at the local vet's had taken it in as they realised it was too small to survive the winter. The vet went to the same local natural history class as me and knew a sucker when he saw one persuaded me to take it home and keep it till spring when it was successfully returned to the wild. (The back garden )

Is anybody else glued to Crufts like me? That lovely Irish vet is quite amazing isn't he? And the dogs, well, just irresistible (apart from the Pekingese, I find it hard to love this breed)
Grace retreats to her bed in disgust at her fickle Mum.

I was outside yesterday chatting with one of my neighbours when I had three children come to me all asking to have their shoe laces tied. This happens fairly frequently. One little soul had his shoes on the wrong feet!

One is 8 and his mother says he will still not be able to tie his laces when he is 14+. I have never had children, is there an easy way or is it just perseverance? I am left handed which may not help them.

I love all dogs but Pekes are fairly low down the list. Cats are easier to look after- Tara has no objections to me spending many hours out provided I leave her with food, water and my bed to lie on.

Thank you for your kind words about Holly , she is lovely. Sam is anxious around other dogs and drools constantly so the plan is to have play dates every few days with Holly to see if Sam can become more accustomed to other dogs.

Totally our fault for not doing enough socialisation with him when he was small.

I love Crufts and exhibited there many times in the 90's . Its amazing. Not just the dogs but also that you can buy anything dog related there.

If anyone is thinking of buying a particular breed it's a fabulous place to visit as the most knowledgeable breeders will be there and they are happy to tell you the pros and cons of every breed ( Im not a big pekinese fan either...its like watching a moving slipper someone trod on )

Im not sure about shoelaces * Charleygirl* thats Gramps territory but I think theres a rhyme he uses about trees and bunny rabbits...Ill ask.

Alea the vet on Crufts is Noel Fitzpatrick and he has his own show on Channel 4 called Super Vet. He does some fantastic work mainly with dogs and he is devoted to his work. Not married and works all the hours there are, even so not many can afford him. But that is because he does major surgery and the dogs have to stay there for weeks afterward so he has about 150 people work for him. He leads the field in research in his world.

A friend just rang to say did we want to out to lunch. So annoying that we can't change our plans - well we could if we really tried but it would mean no time to change and leaving the dogs for too long. I don't go out very often so I am not going in my jeans, I have lots of nice clothes I never get to wear. Rearranged for a fortnights time, something to look forward to.

NanaandGrampy Holly is gorgeous. When I'm feeling better, (with your permission), I may be happy to use her as a model for a portrait.

Whilst on the subject of Crufts...a lady in the village shows and has won awards with her family of Samoyed. My favourite breed is the Airedale terrier. I haven't watched the show thus far.

Tizliz Jeans worn with a comfortable colourful top...ideal for Sunday lunch. I haven't received the 1.99 payment yet. The silk skirt is ready to be wrapped in tissue paper and posted. I have no intention of selling further items on eBay. I cannot be bothered with the hassle.

number Mia is adjusting to having had the treatment. I imagine that the tummy of a cat is very sensitive. I hope that she improves very soon.

Charleyg Rory refuses to sit on my lap. He isn't inclined to lie beside me when I take a nap. He is devoted to MacSporran. I am considered to be of some use when he wants the door opened so that he can go out to play with Tortoiseshell cat. They now spend up to two hours sitting together on the utility room mat. Whereas Rory was seen to greet her at first with a gentle tap with his paw...he now rubs noses with her. They are comfortable with each other

Alea Grace has good taste. She's far too genteel to be impressed with celeb-status canines. Rory poo-poos cats that are "showy"...I can see the disdain written all over his weathered face.

Did any of you watch the final of 'Trapped'? An excellent drama. I so wanted Andri to be reunited with his wife. Maybe there will be a further series. I really liked his character and that of the lady police officer. Her name escapes me right this minute. She was natural and down to earth.

Scotland play France at Murrayfield this afternoon. Although I've been napping during the afternoons, I fully intend being awake to cheer them on.

Still feeling grotty. Almost certain that I have a raised temperature. Get up to do something simple and get all hot and bothered. The cough is indecent. May visit the GP tomorrow if no improvement. I'm afraid that, if I carry on like this, I may have another bout of pneumonia.

The only tree and bunny rabbits I know involves a fox as well and is for tying a bowline knot.
This bug is rotten. I'm still coughing like mad, lost voice and feel like a wrung out dishcloth.
To cap it all, I've torn/strained one of my abdominal muscles coughing.
My sputum is clear though so no point in going to GP as its obviously viral. I reckon * soop* passed it to me through the pooter
