Are you a regular cinema goer? we only go about four times a year these days, but usually enjoy it so should go more.
What did you go and see last?We saw the latest Bond film ( Dh's choice.)

I'm not sure which thread it was on recently about folks behaving badly at the cinema?
Anyway last night DH and I and another couple went to our local theatre to see That'll be the Day-absolutely brilliant, highly recommended.
We were at the end of a row and next to us were about 4/6 ladies and the same number behind them. Well, we're they were disruptive! Kept talking throughout. It is the sort of show where you sing along and interact so fair enough but really I wanted to hear the performers not her!
Anyway after the interval is said to the (younger) lady between us, oh no, has she had another pint in the interval then? And she replied she's only on J2O-so I laughed and said thank goodness, so she could have been worse then?
I really wanted to say just shush but she was enjoying herself, as were we all, and you can hardly complain about someone having fun at a fun event can you? But it was just a constant background noisesad

Spotlight was fantastic, great to see it win the best picture Oscar.

We saw Hail Ceasar last week, I enjoyed it, understated and very entertaining, particularly the communists smile

Spotlight for us too. Not surprised it won the Oscar for best picture.

I can't remember the last time I went to the cinema, I'd guess it was in the 80s? DH doesn't believe in paying for extra channels on TV so all we have is Freeview so things like the latest season of NCIS etc have just got to wait for me.

I have a lot of catching up to do!

I purchase box sets when they are reasonably priced, the last one I got was Bates Motel Season's 1&2 and I pre-ordered ROOM but DH doesn't know yet LOL

I agree my son took me to watch it and I think it is the first time I have been in a cinema for ages, but a brilliant film really enjoyed it.

I go with friends every week or so. We saw Quartet last week - absolutely hilarious. Fantastic cast: Michael Gambon, Billy Connolly, Tom Courteney; Pauline Collins; Maggie Smith; Trevor Peacock; Andrew Sachs. Directed by Dustin Hoffman. Wonderful story, acting and location, music... everything ! I live in France so don't know whether its on general release in the UK because it is a 2012/13 film I think.

I was not impressed with Hail Caesar either.

Capture The Flag with our 4 year old grandson. DH and I always fancy seeing one of the latest films and say we will have a 'date night' but it never seems to happen.

Brooklyn, sister laid up after knee replacement so it was a girlie night in. thought it was more Mills & Boon than Colm Toibin. But Chinese take away with cheesecake for dessert made it a great night.

Or even go for it .........

Nora, I always go alone. OH works still and the bus does not run late enough for evening showings, so I always go in the day time. As others have said, no one takes a blind bit of notice if you are on your own. Get for it and enjoy!!

Brooklyn, at a Silver Cinema showing. Was charming. I often go on my own, very relaxing. The cinema is like time out of life.

I last went years ago when DD was at school, it was a star wars thing and I slept through. no treat for me, too noisy and too much excitement.

Parsleywin Sat 19-Mar-16 20:41:36

Yes Nora, I go alone. I felt self-conscious the first time but soon realised that no-one was remotely interested! I'm not the only one, and it doesn't cost me a thought now. I really enjoy going in the daytime and have probably seen more films this last year than in the previous thirty! Go for it, I'd say.

I go on my own! Doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'm lucky to have a very local small cinema close by, though. I can go "on the hop" if I see something I like, or if I like a film no-one else does like Psycho.

Eddie the eagle my daughter got tickets from showfilm first its a real story where a slightly challenged child (I had several of these) conquers all bullying, teasing and lack of backing it is a real feel good film.which encourages perseverance and the fact his Mums beliefs and support got him through

rosesarered Sat 19-Mar-16 19:46:24

matson never got back about the 'Grimsby.. not impressed' so am wondering if it was the place, not a film.

baNANAGran3 Sat 19-Mar-16 19:35:17

The Lady in The Van - excellent. The lack of loud background music when they were talking was fantastic. The Curzon cinema comes to our village hall, £6

I do sometimes; went to see a rather gory film once that the S.O. wouldn't have liked. The cinema does have viewing for groups of people who go on their own and they can discuss the film afterwards [the only drawback to going on your own imo is not having someone to chat to about the film afterwards, but better to see it on your own than with someone who is bored throughout].

nora Sat 19-Mar-16 17:17:19

What do you think about going to the cinema on your own, its not always easy to find someone to go with. Does anyone else go on their own?

Aprilgreg Sat 19-Mar-16 16:39:05

Yes, Bridge of Spies was the best film I've seen for years. It should have won the Oscar.

Parsleywin Sat 19-Mar-16 16:01:02

Bridge of Spies, £3 Silver Cinema bargain. Really enjoyed it.

Our last film was "Hail, Caesar": I loved it, DH bored and actually fell asleep! Before that "Spotlight" and "Revenant" - loved them both.
