Are you a regular cinema goer? we only go about four times a year these days, but usually enjoy it so should go more.
What did you go and see last?We saw the latest Bond film ( Dh's choice.)

Last film I saw was dads army.

But all the major films eventually get shown at the senior screen mornings.
Very good value, £3.50, free tea or coffee and a biscuit.

It seems to be more expensive if you go in the evenings or weekends.

Tha Lady in the Van - very good. I am a member of the Seniors club - film, cup of tea and a biscuit £3.29. This week it will be Bridge of Spies. Looking forward to it.

We have an art house cinema a bus ride away and I visit regularly and have a loyalty card. Last went yesterday to see The Pearl Button. Unbelievable film and one that will stick in my memory for years. Totally wonderful but not easy to watch. Can recommended thoroughly if you are interested in history and human rights.

Spectre.

I have been to the cinema in France more times in the last few years than in the last ten in UK. the local cinema in a very working town in one of the poorest areas in France has a fantastic huge Art Deco cinema. It has great sound, huge screen and very comfortable huge seats.

If there is an English speaking blockbuster going around the manager puts on an original version screening at 6pm on a Monday evening for only €5 for us retirees. Perfect time as we don't fall asleep. He has also put on buffets in the bar afterwards, and brought in an English choir to do a performance before the screening of Quartet. Such ambience.

Rams at Warwick University Arts Centre last week

An Icelandic film about two neighbouring sheep farmers, brothers who haven't spoken in forty years.
When scrapie strikes and all the sheep are ordered to be destroyed they are forced together to try to hide a few of the sheep and a prize winning ram from the authorities.
It doesn't end well, for the brothers or the sheep but I won't give away the end in case any of you plan to see it.

Last film we saw was Hail Caesar. We've seen a few this year (Spotlight was our favourite). Our local cinema has a super Tues deal which we use. We did try the cheapo oldies deals a couple of times but had unfortunate experiences both times. On the first occasion a woman spilt coffee all over another member of the audience and wouldn't even apologise! The second time, someone near us either let one off or had an accident and the whole back row stank! We all sat holding tissues to our noses for most of the performance. So we decided to give them a miss thereafter!

Saw Hail Caesar yesterday. 6 of us and not one of us liked it. Very disjointed and not as funny as we had been led to believe.

The Danish Girl - very sad! I am now encouraged to go and see Hail Ceaser.

Daisyanswerdo Fri 18-Mar-16 22:24:12

Spotlight - yes, i agree, a great film.

mrswoo Fri 18-Mar-16 21:52:54

The Danish Girl at our local independent cinema, good film and Eddie Redmayne is excellent as a woman.

grannylyn65 Fri 18-Mar-16 20:09:52

Revenant indeed Grizzly so is the bear !?

Blinko Fri 18-Mar-16 20:04:34

Dad's Army
The Lady in the Van
Brooklyn

The Revenant sounds rather too grizzly for my liking, despite the excellent Leo de Cap.

Wheniwasyourage Fri 18-Mar-16 18:57:33

Spotlight - great film!

I had not been to the cinema for quite a while, but then I discovered that our local Odeon has a Silver Cinema for 55+ twice a week at set times.
For the grand sum of £3.00, you get to see a very recent film, with a cup of tea or coffee and a bikkie thrown in !!!!!
I saw "The Martian" a couple of weeks ago, and I loved it. The great thing is that there are no little horrors kicking the seat behind you, and better still, no-one chats on their mobile or even talks during the film.
The PERFECT cinema experience.
All that was missing were the Usherettes with their torches and the trays of ice creams, but hey ho, that was a different era

Spectre and I fell asleep! I'm not a fan of James Bond but DH is so I thought I would make an effort.

Marmight Fri 18-Mar-16 18:39:11

Not in the cinema, but on a long haul flight this week I watched 4 films back to back shock.

Spectre
Bridge of Spies
Suffragettes
Brooklyn

I started to watch Carol but gave up after 40 minutes and went to sleep!

merlotgran Fri 18-Mar-16 18:21:02

Haven't been to the cinema in yonks. I think the last film I saw was Lost in Translation and it was so boring I fell asleep.

mrshat Fri 18-Mar-16 18:06:34

Bridge of Spies - Excellent!

Coolgran65 Fri 18-Mar-16 17:24:03

The Van... Maggie Smith .... lovely movie.

Noplacelikehome Fri 18-Mar-16 16:41:20

BROOKLYN - it was fab. All the costumes were bringing back memories, and funny lines as well as pathos.

NotTooOld Fri 18-Mar-16 16:41:05

Dad's Army last week. After a slightly dodgy start it was very good. I'm a big Dad's Army fan so I just had to see it.

rosesarered Fri 18-Mar-16 14:45:02

matson you haven't got back to the thread about 'Grimsby' is this really a film?
I heard about the bear scene in Revenant..... Yikes!

grannyactivist Fri 18-Mar-16 14:23:53

We watched The Revenant a couple of days ago and dare I say it? We found it to be overlong, overworked and I was actually bored a couple of times. The dialogue was frequently mumbled so that audience members were constantly querying what had been said. To be fair it has to be said that the scene with the bear seemed to be incredibly authentic. For me the star of the film is definitely the breathtaking scenery.

Londongirl Fri 18-Mar-16 14:03:23

Bridge of Spies
The Hateful Eight
The Revenant
All three excellent movies to watch on a large cinema screen.
Watched Spectre on TV recently and am glad I didn't spend money on cinema tickets for it.

Greyduster Fri 18-Mar-16 13:48:12

Or, presumably Teetime, chucking popcorn all over you blush!
