When to plant bedding plants

Yes. I'm pretty sure Johnsons Blue is the one I had originally, before the pink 'Wargrave' eliminated it and took over (pretty well) the whole bed. More digging out to do I suppose.

I had 2 clumps of Johnsons Blue, one either side of the start to a walkway, frocks. Someone wanted me to cut off a clump of them for her but the clumps never spread enough to do it. . Worth googling to find out if they would suit? Could be, tho, that I was just lucky...beautiful colour, tho.

Is there such a thing as a non-invasive geranium anno. I have the same trouble - Wargrave pink completely over-running the nice blue ones that were also in there. No sign of those now.

Here in Cornwall I am planting things out so that my neighbour doesn't have too many to water while we are away, (from mid June for 3 weeks). I have put pelargoniums out and annual bedding. I planted up hanging baskets several weeks ago and they have been in the polytunnel. This week we have been hardening them off and they are just about ready to put in position.

I found a red pelargonium still alive in one of last year's pots. Two verbena have also survived though they look a bit bedraggled. I will find a new pot for them tomorrow.
Can someone recommend a blue non-invasive geranium. My garden gets overrun with pink ones that don't know their place.

Pelargoniums potted up and put on walls 2weeks ago, amazingly survived 3overnight frosts and are looking good. Like to live dangerously!

I'm sitting so tightly on my hands here in the w.midlands until the beginning of June, that it hurts to type, and mostly because my bum is squashing my iPad

In the past 10 days we've had a snowstorm, 2 hailstorms, lashing rain and last night the wind was so strong it sounded like a train going through a tunnel. The plants I see have been raised in greenhouse conditions and just aren't ready to be immediately planted out in open ground,. I miss my greenhouse at this time of year.

The good news is that nature has a way of catching up, so I'll continue to sit for another couple of weeks, but boy! It's hard.

H is currently planting out the petunias that have been in the cold frame for a couple of weeks. After having jet washed the patio Summer is coming ?
There is a big garden show near here bank holiday weekend we will buy more then and plant straight out. We're S.E.

My perlargoniums are out and flowering, so yours should be OK. I was a bit brutal with them though and stuck them out a couple of weeks ago before that cold snap.

Just put out all the pelargoniums ( they were resting in the workshop all Winter) and they seem fine, and will put out tomatoes this week, already have sweet peas planted about three weeks ago, and sunflowers are just breaking through as tiny seedlings.The weather is so hot South Midlands and the South East that now seems to be ok for them.

I'm hoping that here in south Devon I can start planting soon. The cold nights
seem to be over. But I might just wait another week or two, in case.

Ive just planted out 3 tumbling tomatoes with basil in a sheltered patio that has lots of sun. Too hot to sit on today??

I know I ordered six low growing sweat pea plants. Ordered them as "garden ready". Planted them straight out but three didn't survive the cold, and the other three are only just starting to pull through. Thomson and Morgan sent them out far too early! Grrr.

Would think Wiltshire would be ok from now on, so long as your garden isn't too exposed.

I live in Hampshire and have always planted up containers and baskets around the first weekend in May and planted out the borders on or near Whitsun weekend. Love doing that, real promise of summer to come.

Whitsun here as well as we are prone to late frosts in East Anglia.

My rule of thumb has always been Whitsun.....next half term.

I live in Wiltshire so it shouldn't be too cold. Wouldn't want to be caught out with a late frost, though, NotTooOld. Thanks all.

In Cheshire I have always found mid-May is fine for the annuals I plant in pots. I started yesterday with some fuchsias (Aldi) and geraniums (twofer at the garden centre). I still have a few petunias to pot up when I get some more compost. Having found some vouchers for the garden centre, I'll be back there very soon.

You could have a frost while you're away, nanasam. Leave it until you come back. Have a good hol!

Depends where you live in the UK. I live in South and it would be fine. But if you live north or in a frost pocket it is a chance. Early June isn't too late they will romp away.
