Bra's

I found a lovely bra in Bon Marche but when I tried it on, By no stretch of the imagination could I do it up. my entire back was bare. I may try the Tu bras- I want unpadded, non wired, plain and not looking as though I could take my shopping home instead of using a carrier bag or two.

After last night's GB Sewing Bee, perhaps we could all try making our own bras.

If you can get to a branch of Rigby and Peller, (the only one in the north is in Harrogate, which is a right pain) go and get measured by them.
I'm an 'H' cup size, and getting bras with enough support without the 'scaffolding' effect is a nightmare!
Most R&P bras are expensive, but to get a really good fit and the comfort that comes with it, I'm willing to pay!

Rigby and Peller is the place where they measure you without a tape measure, just by eye. It was only after I'd been there that I realised I've been wearing the wrong size for years! I have worn the size they recommended ever since and it's great having something that fits.

As you do I decided to have a little look around and see what I'm missing. I looked at the price of some underwear on the R&P site and now I need to lie down: who on earth can justify paying nearly forty pounds for this?!?1 My mind is boggled and my gob is smacked!!!

No two bodies are alike are they?

I have several bras all of which are different in cup size, and they all fit in a fashion !

I got measured in Debenhams and I also got measured in M&S and they both differed in their sizes.

I am a 36" but I wear F, G, GG and H cups, and they all fit. Heavy heavy heavy. I find if the bra is aligned straight across at the back and the straps hold me up tight I am okay, but as one boob is bigger than the other I constantly have to hoist a strap up.

I am due a windfall in late June and am considering surgery to have them reduced in size but also more importantly to even them up which would stop the constant pulling of the strap back over.

Boobs .. who would honestly have them?

Nonnie I sooooo agree!, and granny a Imwontbtell you how much mine cost. Bock and tackle needed. I could have paid for plastic surgery by now !!

Her Majesty the Queen wears Rigby and Peller don't you know ! I once had a full lingerie set in R&P and it was lovely. If I could afford it I would wear their stuff.

I'm still in shock after looking at the rigby peller website at their prices! ? I dont do wired bras and thought the rigby peller bras to fancy for my liking...

Watching last night's Sewing Bee had me chuckling at the delicate little bits of lace they called bras. Had me wondering just who they would have fitted (or done any good to)!

I have a small but well stacked one ( or rather, two.)
I have a whole drawer full of bra's of every style , or had, as I had a clear out.The 34 b which was lilac and lacy was never going to fit me again, ditto the silky grey number with white lace daisies on it.I now have about 6 sensible bra's in white and black and nude which fit and go under everything.

If anyone finds a comfortable nonwired bra I would love to hear about it . I am a 36D but it is impossible to find a decent bra which doesn't hurt my back . I would be happy to spend around £20 . I have tried every make in that price range , if I get one that doesn't hurt it doesn't hold me up either !

I went for the cheaper bras 'naturally close' as I was fed up of having to fork out £40 for one bra! ( one of the downfalls of having big breasts) they all arrived and none were a good fit in fact there was very little difference in the sizing of them and they really didnt fit or support like I had hoped and the material quality was very poor so have sent them all back...
I decided to go for a better quality bra and have ordered the glamourise soft shoulder minimiser bra to see what they are like ( they had good reviews) and have ordered a selection of sizes around my old bra size...will be interesting to see how much the sizing differs from the cheaper ones..

Getting post op bra in high street shops is a nightmare every shop measures you diffently and stock is very limited specialised shops are very expensive for day to day bra am really surprised fifty plus etc don't do them .

Rigby and Peller bras last so much longer than cheaper M&S (other bras are available!) that it makes them easily comparable if you work out a "cost per wear"

I went to Riby and Peller when their sale was on, got properly measured, bought a couple of lovely sets reduced, now buy elsewhere but always buy the size they recommended.

I've given up on under wired bras, they are just so uncomfy. I now wear sports bras. They keep the girls in place and give me a cleavage. When home alone I don't wear one at all. I'm a big girl too, 38F. hugs

I too seem to have developed a 'fetish' about bras. Recently lost a fair bit of weight and decided to go to M&S to be remeasured. Only cup size has changed, so dutifully proceeded to buy another couple of bras, but went a bit mad and bought the same model I'd tried on, in 4 different colours, two of which were the most brightly coloured bras I have ever worn! Bright fuschia and a tangerine colour. So then needed the knickers to match, which was fine, but couldn't find the tangerine pants in a full brief (which I need to hide the offending fat!)But hey, I feel so excited about launching out of the ordinary black and white, at my age! But M&S do a beautiful range of non-wire bras too.

Try Amplebosom.com if you have an . . er ample bosom. Huge range of styles and fabulous colours for us larger ladies (I'm 44GG). I have violet, turquoise, teal, emerald, cerise and 'kittly pink'.

God bless Rigby and Peller; having always worn a 36 c ( thinking I was nothing if not average) R&P put me into a 34 f (!!) How could I have got it so wrong. I always wear underwired as they keep the assets in approximately the correct area of the torso.

And for anyone who may be interested, to eradicate (almost) wobbly bits elsewhere, cannot recommend highly enough an all-in-one, wear your own bra bodysuit. Gives me back a waist and is strict with my stomach , which can be badly behaved. I wish I had a pound for everyone in have given this hint to, or shares in the company!

Years ago, when M & S first advertised bra fitting, I braved it and asked to be fitted. She measured and told me what size to look for but then said that the best thing is to try them on because they do come up different. Hm, that was a waste of time then.

I have never found a really comfy bra, La Senza came the closest, just my luck!

I also hate the way most bras today my 36c cup look enormous, all to do I suppose with the fashion for an ample bosom. I tend to wear a sports type bra for daily comfort and only resort the a proper bra if I go 'out'
