I've just seen that a couple in Australia have named their new daughter Kviiilyn as they don't like the traditional spelling of Caitlin. What have they condemned that poor child to? Guarantee that most people will call her K-vill-yn. The parents think that this spelling makes her unique!

Airey Neave hated his name until he went into politics when he said nobody ever forgot him, our eldest is Eben, second Daniel, he had 4 in his class!

Novelette was my favourite. It was a name I came across when we were living in Jamaica.

I had a client named her child Sherlandorhope...a combination of the names of female relatives. My grandfather was T Potts and named his son the same and i pointed out to my son that my new grandson's initials would be W O G hastily changed of course smile

Back in the sixties there were seven girls in my class with the same name. I worked in schools and nurseries for years and only met one child with the same name. Maybe one day it'll be stylish again. My daughter is expecting and it's such a big thing choosing a name.

annemac101 Mon 06-Jun-16 11:53:33

That should say" same name as me"

This is so different here in Germany - there are very strict rules about what you are allowed to name your child.

I was told that the Irish pronunciation of Caitlin is Kathleen.

And for Chocolate pudding I throw Hermione and Hatchepsut into the ring.

Katek Mon 06-Jun-16 12:04:34

Horatia?

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 06-Jun-16 12:26:23

Surely Hor8tia?! grin

Seb smile. I used to go to ballet classes, back in the day, with 'Poppy Summers' - very appropriate

I once taught twins called Star and Amy! - apparently there were dozens of children and the father named one, the mother the next, so they had Venus and Odin, Peter and Susan...
MelONie was one of my favourites.
My son wryly commented that none of my grandchildren have "ordinary" names. Their choice, but GS's name is a bit hard to take, still... got used to it after 12 years.
chocolate - Hilda, Holly, Harper,Hafsa, Habiba,Harmony...?

* chocolatepudding*. Hortense?

In my youth there was a family whose surname was Leafe. They decided to have a mass baptism for their family, but the Vicar would not do it as they wanted to call the children Beech, Oak, Fern, Holly etc. He said they were not "Christian" names. Don't suppose he would get away with refusing nowadays, be infringing their human rights or something.

Versace McLatchie - I love it! I wonder if her dog is called Hairy McLairie?

Gagagran Mon 06-Jun-16 12:45:46

I have a fairly normal name but it could have been different. Before I was born my father was reading Knights of the Round Table to my brother and when asked what name they should give to his little sister he said Guinevere!! Fortunately my mother said no.

chocolatepudding Mon 06-Jun-16 12:52:24
