I am another 19mnths away from this. If I have done my sums right.

Bellanonna Sun 31-Jul-16 22:54:13

What a shame. I'm nearly six years away from it. That's six years in the other direction sad

harrigran Sun 31-Jul-16 23:07:42

I was 70 on 12th May so I can come, I will bring fresh peach juice and vintage champagne smile

NanKate Mon 01-Aug-16 06:30:51

Yes Harrigran you are very welcome. What a vintage lot we are and your alcoholic contribution sounds wonderful.

Anya Mon 01-Aug-16 06:39:44

Oh dear I'll miss this by just 23 days as my birthday's in January. Never mind will have one next year for 47 babies perhaps.

NanKate having met you there's no way I'd have thought your 70th was imminent shock

I was born in May 1948, and think this was also considered a baby boomers period.
Mick

NanKate Mon 01-Aug-16 06:59:25

Hi Anya you have special dispensation to come to the party.

Thanks for the lovely compliment. smile Don't you think us grans/ Nans generally look far younger than a few generations ago ? We are encouraged to dress in a modern way and keep fit and healthy for as long as possible.

Now Anya what low carb delights will you be bringing to the party ?

Falconbird Mon 01-Aug-16 07:00:15

You're right Mick. Boomers are children born after the war i.e 1946 onwards. I'm not sure when the Boomer period ends but I think it's a period of about 10/15 years. All those born in 1946, me included are called lead (first) Boomers. There are lots of us because men were encouraged to go home after the war and have families. smile

NanKate Mon 01-Aug-16 07:01:07

Yes Mick all Baby-boomers are welcome.

annsixty Mon 01-Aug-16 07:15:04

Well I hope you all have a wonderful time , and I may have to organise a party for us pre-war babies, 1937 me. I wonder how many will turn out for that.

Anya Mon 01-Aug-16 07:15:08

Thank you NanKate I'll accept your kind invitation.

I'm fetching some very yummy cauliflower pizza, quail eggs wrapped in wild smoked salmon and a selection of cheese. Two out of the three will be fine for our veggie guests.

I'm still on my no alcohol challenge day 67/100 but if the party is still ongoing on September 4th I could break out the home-made cassis?

Iam64 Mon 01-Aug-16 07:19:25

I'd love to come, though I'm a couple of years away from the next Big Birthday. I'll bring a fruit cake and some lancashire cheese to eat with it.

Falconbird Mon 01-Aug-16 07:38:51

annsixty - Do come.

My cousins were born in the 1930s. Our experiences are similar in some ways and very different in others. I love hearing my cousins talking about life during the war. My dh (sadly passed away) was born in 1944 and technically was a War Baby and not a Boomer. For some reason he was very pleased about that.

Gagagran Mon 01-Aug-16 08:34:21

DH and I are both War Babies too but don't remember the war at all. I feel much more part of the post-war boomers generation as that's when I grew up.

(If I can come to the party I will willingly do the washing up)

shysal Mon 01-Aug-16 08:34:31

Happy birthday wot flowers

NanKate Mon 01-Aug-16 08:49:25

You are very welcome Gagagran

Don't worry about the washing up I am hiring staff to do that for us. grin

Lancashire cheese and fruit cake, I am already drooling Iam64.

KatyK Mon 01-Aug-16 09:58:13

I'm not there yet but I'll send DH along as he was 70 earlier this year.

wot Mon 01-Aug-16 10:00:13

Thanks abysmal!?

wot Mon 01-Aug-16 10:01:33

Shysal , not abysmal!!!!! Rotten iPad!

Bellanonna Mon 01-Aug-16 10:14:37

Ah well if Ann and Gaga are going, may I come too (1940). I do have a few memories, I.e. Sirens and all-clears and the shelter. I'll bring something nice to eat, not sure yet what.

cangran Mon 01-Aug-16 10:31:09

Great idea! I was 70 on 7th June. Instead of a party, I've been having on-going special treats to celebrate - holiday in Jersey with family, dinner cruise on the Thames, tea parties and on Saturday I have tickets with three friends to see 'Jersey Boys' which my daughter kindly gave me!

I am veggie and will think of something nice to bring (but it won't involve goat's cheese - yuk!).

Where have the last 10 years gone??
