Hotel pornography

I am with you Mr. Wobbly - porn is a degradation of all the participants and all the viewers, and should not be on offer at a decent hotel as "all part of the service." I think it a sad reflection of society.

When channel flicking on hotel TVs I've inadvertently seen some horrid things. As soon as I realised what I was watching I moved to a different channel but the images were so bizarre (I'm obviously very naive) that I didn't realise at first what I was seeing. I think the 'trailers' arrive on your screen to encourage you to buy.

I quite agree with wobbly bits that this shouldn't be happening.

I have seen information leaflets in some hotels which make it clear that you can ask for the TV channels to be restricted if children are staying in the room. Or grannies of a nervous disposition.

And/or grandads...

Why would you even put the telly on when staying in a hotel? Except for a few minutes of breakfast tv whilst waiting for the other one of you to finish in the bathroom.

Often watch Tv in a Hotel, pre afternoon nap, after dinner, before turning in etc. We are not up to the 24/7 partying that you are Jings.

You might as well be at home. Sit in the lounge and read a book, and have some nice drinks brought to you.

When i used to travel a lot for work and found sleeping alone difficult I was given some good advice - no, not find a woman -- put the TV on low, it worked, dropped off in no time, even though the program was in some language I didn't understand.

Jings, but we wouldn't be where we wanted to be, don't spend all day in our room.

Yes. The World Service on headphones does that for me. Music doesn't work. Must be talking.

Well I m with you Wobbly think it's totally unnecessary and makes the hotel seem very tacky I haven't stayed in a hotel since I was 20 so not really up to date with what's expected or accepted but it wouldn't seem very classy to me

The last thing this hotel could be called was tacky, 4 star, superb, fantastic room. For some reason we got upgraded to a suite. The bed was so big, that when I wanted to -- to Mrs P. I had to book a taxi. It had everything I could imagine, pool, sauna, gym, great restaurant, not that we used anything other than the restaurant as I didn't take a cossie, and if I want to get hot and sweaty, i'll dig the garden.

Next thing hotels will be offering recreational drugs as an 'extra'.

DH used to do a lot of computer repairs for work mates. He was amazed at the amount of pornography on most of them, but pointed out that it seemed to be the ones full of pornography that had picked up the most viruses.

I don't tink it is prudish, wobbly. I can never get my head around why anyone would want to watch Porn, and I am no prude. I just feel it is very contrived, clinical, and rather sickening

I don't feel that strongly about hotels giving access to porn films, provided young people would not be able to gain access to them.

However, people don't need to go to a hotel to access porn. I read an article in yesterday's papers where a woman who researches young men's sexual attitudes and behaviour said that the vast majority of boys have viewed porn many times via the internet by the age of 13, and some as young as 10.

She found that boys now expect girls to behave and respond as they are seen to do in porn films - which focus predominantly on the pleasuring of the male, often through oral and anal sex - and which invariably portray the man as forceful in their behaviour and aggressive in their language.

It seems to me that porn - or at least this male-centred type of porn - could be very corrosive to young relationships and even affect later serious relationships. Perhaps this focus on attaining personal sexual fulfilment, sometimes with no regard for the wishes or feelings of the other person, is a contributing factor to why so many relationships break down these days.

Now that you brought the subject up I seriously think these adult movies aren't as prevalent in hotels as they use to be in the U.S. In the seventies they use to have xxx movies in drive-in theatres and downtown run down theatres. I really think times have changed for the better. Maybe I'm just naive.

I agree with you wb. Both the porn and watching TV when staying in an hotel. We go to our favourite hotel for a rest and choose it because we don't feel the need to do anything other than have a gentle walk before we go back and read our books. We need to go away because neither of us are capable of ignoring things that need doing if we stay at home.

Wb did you complain to the hotel/post a review on Trip Advisor to warn others about this? Of course you are entitled to your views and to disapprove, but if you don't tell the people responsible it isn't much use posting things on GN, we aren't the people who can change things. If no-one complains the hotel is quite entitled to think its guests are perfectly happy with what it provides

I was talking to my husband about this, and he pointed out that all Sky packages have an option of Adult Movies, though you have to pay extra. Most hotels have a contract with Sky, for which the hotel pays, but the guests get charged for it.
Many visitors to hotels want a TV in their rooms, and a fridge for the bar, etc.

I have never looked at what is on offer on my own TV, perhaps the offerings on there are just as strong, I always assumed they were soft porn (ie like top shelf magazines). I suppose I could look, but not sure I want to. Watching the Argentine Tango on SCD is enough to get my pulse racing. When I can get Mrs. P mobile again, I would love to give it a go.

If it's a family room, it is feasible that the one parent on duty could be in the shower (depending on the age of the children) and the child/children have the remote control. I must admit I wouldn't think to put a suitable program on and take the remote in the bathroom with me and we all know how curious children can be
