Wore my white linen trousers for the last time this year yesterday. Somehow linens just don't feel right any more. I can stop pretending the weather might be nice enough for a barbecue or lunch out doors. I can stop getting fed up because I never really get a tan, largely because I now sit in the shade out of choice. My feet are not swelling up with a couple of hours of getting up. I can start making soups and stews again, no more salad with everything.
OK the darker evenings are a bore as the day is over so quickly, but on balance (as long as I don't think about the endless months of winter) I really like September!

I love a sunny September, but hate it when the clocks go back and turning the heating on. I like changing my wardrobe, but don't like packing my summer stuff away. I like the contrasting seasons, but on balance, prefer the summer.

The advantage of living abroad means that autumn is later in coming. At the moment we have long sunny days with temperatures reaching up to 30C for the next two weeks. Packing away summer clothes and sandals is not likely to be before the end of October and maybe the fires will be lit sometime in November. Summer clothes will be needed for a bit longer this year as we are off to Florida for 3 weeks at the end of October.

What I do miss is the changing colours of autumn. Most of the trees around here are coniferous so we dont get the beautiful colour changes of the trees before they finally drop their leaves.

No - I hate the autumn. I hate dark mornings and nights, lights on earlier, being cold. Hate it

TerriBull Mon 19-Sep-16 14:58:51

Not really, it's not that I don't like Autumn, it can be a wonderful season, it's just that it's a lead into winter, the most dreary of all the seasons, especially when those clock go back. Winter goes on too long, it reminds us another year has passed, which seem to be whizzing by now at an extraordinary rate and then of course to crown it all, Christmas! which I don't dislike in itself, just the over the top rampant commercialism that we get over here in the UK.

Noooooooooo don't want summer to end its still nice here but not so warm Winter is so long in my Victorian house with no central heating I don't like early darkness love being out late in the light, bright evenings Summer was late starting for us but it's been beautiful for the last 6 weeks or more don't ever want it to stop I m greedy I want more please Winter is so long and so depressing I don't hate Autumn but it's just the forerunner of winter and nudges me into knowing its round the corner

Early autumn is usually our best season weather wise here. Mild and mostly dry days, whereas I spend summers hoping the temperature will rise above 18C, warm enough to take off the sweaters. November is my least favourite month, though. No redeeming features at all. Dark, wet, cold and miserable.

We have had a wonderful crop of apples this year and DH has made lots of blackberry and apple jam. So yes, I enjoy September and October. But my favourite is May!

Bring it on! - I love wrapping up and getting into my boots. Mind you come February I'll be longing for Spring.......confused

granjura Mon 19-Sep-16 15:24:30

I shall miss Summer- but I absolutely love autumns here so yes, it will be nice when it comes.

Decided that I just would not 'do' November this year- and hopefully never again- only month in the year I hate- so will be going back to Spring mid November - and then come back just in time for Christmas and a 'proper' winter I hope, with lots of white fluffy snow.

Love Autumn/Winter, no more tossing and turning at night because it's too hot, no more muggy weather that has you sweating streams doing the smallest task, no more hedge cutting, no more smelly barbecues.
Kids are back in school and the nights drawing in, no more footballs being belted against the fence or "I'm going to tell Mum...." or falling outs that all the neighbourhood has to hear (do wish people would think about windows/doors being open).
Pull the curtains, turn on the fire (no Central heating either) and enjoy the peace!

I love sunny Septembers and all the leaves falling in glorious autumn colours, as long as it doesn't rain.
At the moment it's still warm and sunny here, shorts and tee shirts for lots of people, except the smart women who've bought their autumn wardrobe and are determined to wear it now!

Teetime Mon 19-Sep-16 15:45:13

.....and the days dwindle down to a precious few - September, November- what a gloomy song this time of year always makes me think of that and makes me nostalgic for days gone that can never come back and nothing will ever be quite so exciting again. Sorry - not a good day today. sad

DaphneBroon Mon 19-Sep-16 16:44:58

teetime flowers and maybe a tiny cupcake
Hope tomorrow is better for you.

I like autumn - looking forward to November: birthday is Guy Fawkes Day - bonfires and fireworks - I love them! There are loads of family birthdays during December but best of all is Christmas when I can be with my family. As Shelley wrote: 'If winter comes can spring be far behind?'

granjura Mon 19-Sep-16 17:36:38

Re your quote Anno- just depends where you live ;)

DaphneBroon Mon 19-Sep-16 17:46:14

Testing my enthusiasm however, it has rained non-stop since lunchtime sad
Never mind, just perfect for one of my new gilets or bright red rain jacket from the same label smile

I love my winter clothes and boots! Also, only need to wash jumpers and no ironing. On the other hand, hate the gloom (especially in my dark cottage) . Glad also the feeding I should be getting a tan as I can't stand just sitting around in the sun. Not looking forward to the coal fires and expense though and Christmas is always a terrible let down.

KatyK Mon 19-Sep-16 18:05:36

I love winter clothes and boots too. Not keen on summer clothes at my age, I need to cover up! I love the sun though.

shandi6570 Mon 19-Sep-16 18:30:50

No and no again, bring back summer sad

Tegan Mon 19-Sep-16 18:41:36

Just took some cashmere sweaters out of their storage box and they smell horribly of Lakeland moth stop. It's supposed to smell of lavender [which is bad enough] but it's quite sickly smelling. On the plus side I've bought some Hotter pixie boots that are so comfortable, even with my mutant feet, and can't wait to wear them. I do want an Indian Summer though as I'm off to Northumberland next week and want poorly dog to have lots of nice walks on the beach.

whitewave Mon 19-Sep-16 18:45:10

Definitely a Keats sort of day today, which I love. Walking the dog, not a breath of wind, leaves beginning to fall, wood smoke from the scout hut, berries gleaming in the hedges and old mans beard, conkers and cows mooching around their field.

wot Mon 19-Sep-16 18:52:27

Just got to accept winter, although I wish it wouldn't linger as long as it does. The awakening of Spring is a wonder every year to me.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 19-Sep-16 19:08:49

More of a Thomas Hardy day here today - bloody miserable.

J52 Mon 19-Sep-16 19:14:04

Lots of family and friends birthdays in September seems to extend summer. I like Autumn, the colours on the trees, but don't like winter, ice or snow!
I'm off to look up the Hotter pixie boots, Tegan!

whitewave Mon 19-Sep-16 19:16:06

Jing grin
