As an elderly person, I think Cary Grant, Robert Mitchum, and Gregory Peck would be described as handsome, but can't get enthusiastic about any of today's " stars".
Brad Pitt does nothing for me, ditto Johnny Depp .
Thoughts?

Has to be Gregory Peck, the most handsome man ever. Also I believe a really nice person. To Kill a Mockingbird was written for him! Colin Firth a close runner up

I agree with M0nica. None of them. The old saying applies 'Handsome is as handsome does'. And we do not know what these men are like as men, not as the characters they portray nor yet when caught by the paparazzi. I learned about very handsome men at a very young age and so far, have never been wrong.

james martin - and he's even better in real life!

Wobblybits. ...I think we got the message! ?. I'm not keen on conventionally handsome men, I'm a bit weird - I've always liked Alan Rickman, Mark Rylance, Anton Lesser, Peter O'Toole, Gary Oldman, more for their voices and acting ability than looks, but I have to admit I'm a bit partial to Benedict Cumberbatch & Tom Hardy!?

Ewan McGregor, James Nesbitt, Monty Don, Marcus Wareing.

Rufus Sewell wins over Poldark (whoever he is) anytime. Steve McQueen?

gillyknits Mon 26-Sept-16 11:10:14

Got to be Mark Harmon for me!

tigger Mon 26-Sept-16 11:14:57

John Travolta (before the face work).

Liked Brad when he was young (Meet Joe Black days), when he looked about 12. Patrick Swayze made my toes curl, but never saw anything in Depp. My other heart throb in the 60s - I went to Stratford to see Hamlet and Laertes was Peter McEnery - wow!!! Yes, agree about Hugh Jackman too, Merlotgran!

Boosgran Mon 26-Sept-16 11:17:58

Daniel Craig coming out of the sea in Casino Royal

The young Elvis would beat anyone, but GC in ER, Ewan McGregor, Colin Firth, Robin Ellis in the original Poldark (though Aidan Turner not bad!) and Alastair Mackenzie in Monarch of the Glen.

MammaN Mon 26-Sept-16 11:19:19

Forgot Idris Elba ... and Colin Firth (when he's playing the right part) ... shallow? hmm

Neversaydie Mon 26-Sept-16 11:22:19

Johnny Depp is a 'bad boy'isn't he ..if you want a 'bit of rough'
Bradley Cooper He has twinkly eyes
And George Clooney always seems such a gentleman
Just catching up Outlander and am in love witJamie But don't know actors name

Neversaydie Mon 26-Sept-16 11:23:26

Forgot about Alan Rickman How could I Swoons ...

Jalima Mon 26-Sept-16 11:23:49

Rufus Sewell, Robert Redford (a few years ago)

Definitely NOT Cucumberpatch!
His looks are very strange.

Personally, I like a nice personality and a GSOH
I like Monty Don but went off him a bit when he told us global warming would result in the UK having a Mediterranean climate, replant with drought-proof plants, then it rained in Biblical proportions and they all rotted.

Neversaydie Mon 26-Sept-16 11:29:47

Simon Rattle anyone ?Bit like Monty Don...I married DH for his mind But a girl can dream...

WeLoveNewYork Mon 26-Sept-16 11:34:08

The Muskateers that has just finished showing on BBC1, they were all mostly good looking. I still like Richard Gere too, think he has aged well, love him in 'Shall We Dance@.

grannylyn65 Mon 26-Sept-16 11:34:53

Oh yes,!Mark Harmon!

Jalima Mon 26-Sept-16 11:35:26

That lovely young man on Strictly, I think he's a sports presenter, Ore Aduba, I don't usually listen to the sports news but he is very easy on the eye

WeLoveNewYork Mon 26-Sept-16 11:35:38

Oops, it should read 'Shall We Dance'.

AbiN Mon 26-Sept-16 11:37:46

I definitely do believe in 'handsome is as handsome does' but...I'd be prepared to sacrifice my principles for Poldark. Or George Clooney. Or Benedict Cumberbatch. Does this make me shallow?

dorcas1950 Mon 26-Sept-16 11:37:47

Merlotgran, I am right with you: Rufus Sewell, Mark Rylance, James Nesbitt, Philip Glenister, Bruce Springsteen, Alan Rickman ....

Jalima Mon 26-Sept-16 11:38:36

I had to look up Mark Harmon, but yes yes, yes!

(Calm down dear)

MadGrandma Mon 26-Sept-16 11:45:39

I have to admit to a serious crush on Martin Shaw! Maybe not so much now, but his voice just makes me curl inside! However I am fickle as I now could REALLY fancy Alex O'Loughton from the new Hawaii 5-0 series. He's young enough to be my son, but I can be a cougar as good as anyone! He's my screensaver on my laptop!

rolosgran2 Mon 26-Sept-16 11:48:37

Adore everything about Bruce Springsteen and I was a huge JohnnThaw fan.
Not into the modern day ' stars' .
