My children have half siblings so they became uncles at age 3 and nearly 6. When we told our older son he was going to become an uncle, he replied "I@m not ready for to be an uncle, I'm only 5"

My sister is 12.5 years older than me and her first child was born when I was 10, the next at 11 and the third when I was 12 years old. We are all very close although my sister and I had a time when we didn't speak for 10 years, it was her girls that brought us back together, for which I will always be grateful.

My grandmother had 13 children over a period of 21 years which meant (first born) my Uncle Harold's children were born before my Auntie Muriel (last born) was born.

My youngest son complained of being tired when he was about 7 and put it down to the responsibilities of being 'born an uncle'.

My son is uncle to my granddaughter who is two years older than he is.

I became an Auntie at 5 years old, my 2 Nephews were born a couple of months apart. They always called me Auntie never just my name, that must have been very strange to outsiders

MiL was the youngest of 8 her oldest sibling was 22 yrs older than her so if she and her husband had had children MIL would have been an aunt at a very young age.

There are 16 years between my elder and younger sister and my younger sister became an aunt at 12 when I had my first baby.

My eldest sister is 21 years older than me...of 11 we are closet....I was 2 when I became an aunt....sadly we lost my niece at 55 last year....my mum was a granny at 39.... and would have not become a great grandmother until 80....my niece was 41 when she had twin boys

VampireQueen, that may improve as the young ones get older. Although my (now ex)step daughter, who is 32, and my DD, who is her half sister, do not speak now. The eldest has not even met the 9 month old baby, although my DD has met her niece and nephew. I think it is terribly sad, and if I was parent to both (as their useless Dad is), I would bang their heads together!

My DH is youngest of 4. His sister is 15 yrs older. I am oldest of 3. I am 11 years older than younger brother. DH was 7 when he became an uncle and we tend to socialise more with his sister's children as they are closer to our age. Cousin wise our DDs have no cousin's of similar ages to them. The 8yr gap to the nearest in age, when you only see each other occasionally seems greater!

DH had two families. His first family are 40, 38 and 35 and his second family are 11 and 8. Although the younger children know their older siblings but they don't have sibling type relationships with them.

Minibags became an auntie at the age of eight. She is DD3 and there are nearly twenty years between her and DD1.

When I was a student I used to babysit for someone whose children from his second marriage were younger than his grandchildren.

I've got 21 years between my oldest and youngest. My youngest became an aunt at 13, when my oldest had his first child in his 30's.

When I was at junior school a boy in my brother's class had a nephew who was older than him. It always puzzled me greatly how an uncle could be younger than his nephew! grin

There is a 16 year gap between DD1 and DS, so he became an uncle aged 10. His eldest nephew is now 5 and loves playing computer games with his uncle.

There are 10 years between DD1 and DD2 and 11 years between DD1 and DS.

DD1 is 21 and has a 9 month old baby.

We all spent the day together and swapped kids. DD1 took DD2 and DS to do the fun things that take a lot of energy in the pool, then on the fun rides at the funfair, while I splashed around in the baby pool with DGD and then sat on a bench with her, while she slept.

We all had a great time, Auntie and Uncle love their niece and big sis very much, and it is totally reciprocated.

We bumped into friends who have similar, a Grown up DD, with her toddler and baby and and 11 year old who is Auntie to them and a slightly younger Aunt too.

We had a brief chat about it, the fact that being a Gran is wonderful and the younger kids love being Aunties and Uncle. I feel the Grandchildren benefit a lot from having these people not too much older than them, that care about them loads.

I have an Auntie who is 12 years older than me, and now I am nearly 50, we are so very close and I love it.

I wondered if many of you have similar experiences?
