Just to say that as my other username of numberplease didn`t seem to work anymore, I`ve had to rejoin in a new guise, so Hello, I`m back again!

callgirl1 Sun 30-Oct-16 00:05:10

And having to wait for someone to be found to plug into your position when you needed a wee, and being expected to get down 3 flights of stairs and back in a couple of minutes!

callgirl I was a GPO telephonist on the old type of exchange , Macclesfield 1966 -68 . I loved the old type switchboards with the long cords and jack plugs which snapped back into there holders . The supervisors were absolute horrors and walked at the back of you making sure you weren`t slacking .

....and hello from me callgirl1, wishing you good times to come (sorry I can't add to the above except to add to the collection of saucy names: years ago when I worked as a volunteer for the FPA we were known as 'lay-workers'!)

I loved the job Baubles, with the then GPO, before the days of BT, it was just the supervisor I didn`t like, not many did.

baubles Fri 28-Oct-16 21:49:26

Random O there!

baubles Fri 28-Oct-16 21:49:00

Nice to see you back callgirl1 smile
You've reminded me of the times when I was occasionally required to relieve the telephonist in my civil service office for short periods. It was a task I didn't look forward to as the 'eyeballs in the sky' switchboard filled me with horror. I dread to think how many calls came to an abrupt end as I pulled the cable and like as not crossed wires with the wrong person. O
You would have been distinctly unimpressed!

callgirl1 Fri 28-Oct-16 15:55:59

Do you mean the old manual exchange switchboards Pogs? I only ever worked on them when relieving at other exchanges whilst they were converting to automatic. Rochdale was already automatic when I started there. I was sent out to Bolton, Rossendale, Todmorden (complete with ghost) and Bacup. Got quite a few electric shocks from the old manual boards as well.

Never Kitty! I was able to read all the posts, but wasn`t able to post myself, or pick up pms, so if anyone has pm`d me during the last week and a half, I won`t have got them.

kittylester Thu 27-Oct-16 17:29:50

callgirl1 Thu 27-Oct-16 17:28:11

What exchange did you work on Pogs? I was at Rochdale from 1959 till 1964.

POGS Thu 27-Oct-16 17:20:19

Hi number.

I take it you were a 'Call Girl' like myself, a telephonist?

Keep posting.
