It would be nice to make friends with other GNs

I've made some fabulous friends on a couple of European Forums- some have been here to stay and we've been very close friends ever since. Why not? We had some over from UK the other day - who have a holiday place near here- what a delight they are. In the Spring we will visit 2 separate friends in SW France who've been here to ski a couple of years back. Wonderful.

Jalima your are right to be cautious, I am very careful and know people for a long time before I Utrust* them. We exchange cards at Christmas and birthdays and occasionally parcels with various things from our different countries we know each others families very well.

The only thing that would concern me is that you would have to be careful when chatting about your family, your DGC, that the other person may not be what they seem - even if they put up photos etc.

I know I am me, a boring old granny, but I could be anyone I wanted to be online.

Why don't you start a blog tanith?
As you read and follow other blogs they will in return link to you and you will collect followers from all over the world.

Thanks for explaining Shanma, everyone gets something different from the internet and as the others have said some people including myself make lifelong friends although the two I mention are not GN members at all. One of my American pals Facetimed me yesterday and we had a 20 min conversation about our grandchildren and their achievements it was a total 'brag' fest but so enjoyable and it doesn't cost us a penny.

I think its wonderful that people who are perhaps lonely in their real lives or even housebound can find real friendship in forums that share their interests without ever meeting them.
I'm glad you find GN members hold your interest we are a helpful friendly bunch in the main.

I haven't had any suggestions to me original question so far I guess I'll have to keep searching.

Shanma I was listing the kinds of things that posters - some posters - seem to think that the other people on here are for. There do seem to be some who regard them as mere fodder for their own attacks and windups.

I think the fact that you didn't say anything about your view, only seemed amazed that anyone else actually found friends on here, did colour your post rather. We only know about you as much as you tell us.

If you are looking forward to conversations that are interesting, funny, helpful, then you are in the right place, and, if you think about it, those are the things that feature in the conversations that you have with friends.

Lots of us do make friends on here, though, so that's okay.

In general Elegran I would categorise the posters on here as People who maybe have something I would find interesting, funny, helpful. I do find your last post somewhat sarcastic and a bit nasty though. Just because I find it confusing as to why others think of GN Posters as friends does not mean that i think badly of them. Certainly I am not here to laugh at people, and I hope I wouldn't try to de rail and spoil conversations.

It seems from your post that you are categorising me, just because I don't think of a Forum as a place to make Friends.

Why does it confuse you that people have made friends on gransnet? Is that a concept that you had never thought of?

Every poster relates differently with other. How would you categorise the posters you chat with on here? Acquaintances? Adversaries? Advisors? Sources of entertainment to laugh at? An audience to project opinions onto? Gullible mugs to wind up? Conversations to derail and spoil?

Quite, dj, I consider lots of the people that I 'meet' on GN friends.

Yes Shanma two ladies I've known for over 12 yrs and shared many family occasions with them and why not? We FaceTime and share pictures and messages via a forum and FB.

Like making friends on Gransnet.

Why not 'friends' Shanma ? I liken chatting to people on forums and getting to know them through pm's and e-mails the modern equivalent of pen FRIENDS. Lots of people write to pen friends for years without ever meeting.
