No point in calling me out over this as I won't respond (taking a leaf out of my own book too) but a bit of introspection wouldn't go amiss.

I can see that my attempts at humour failed catastrophically. So, I apologise to all the nice people out there. But DB, why else would you come on here if not to have fun and entertain yourself, and Saturdays evenings are boring. And what is worse, DB, 'winding people up' or bullying them just because their style, comments or views do not match yours?

What are you comparing, casawan? Who do you see as bullying whom? It's quite an accusation and I might be interested in your evidence.
Having fun at the expense of others is a poor way to pass a Saturday night. There was an excellent BBC2 programme last night on productions of King Lear, for instance. Read a book, stroke the cat or walk the dog.

DB - I have not been around here long enough to know, but I hope there is nothing underlying that is making you seem so unhappy - and no, I am not being flippant.
FYI, I am quite capable of stroking the cat while using the iPad, I don't have a dog. I am an avid reader, currently back to Shardlake, but can't read all day. IMVHO, King Lear is boring and I suspect you are trying to assert your assumed superiority by suggesting that. Further, you are not in charge here so can't tell me what I can and can't do.

hilltopgran. Yes, Booths is an excellent place to shop. They have one in Lancaster which I use when visiting my brother, and I gave been to the one in Penrith on the way to Centreparcs at Whinfell. They did the best bacon rolls in their cafe I have ever eaten. Sadly there is not one here in N Cheshire though, but in this moderately-sized town we have 3 x M&S, 3 x Asda, 3 x Sainsbury's, 1 x Morrisons, more Tesco stores than I can keep track of, more than one each of Lidl and Aldi and an Iceland superstore. There was talk of a Booths, but it is said they felt there was too much competition.

As you say casawan, you haven't been around long enough to 'know' people who have so why don't you take your time to get to know people a bit before you charge in making sweeping statements?

Let's take a step back. Casawan posted what I thought was quite a witty post, but others found it offensive.

She later apologised. Whereupon she was subjectec to another pounding and somewhat patronising remarks.

She has simply stood her ground and responded in a feisty manner telling DB quite rightly that she's 'not in charge' and suggesting they are poles apart and might do better to ignore each other.

I welcome a newcomer with a sense of humour and a bit of spirit.

I don't know what she's done to deserve such a barage but I think she will be a useful addition to this forum if she doesn't pack it in as a waste of time.

Nobody should have to serve an apprenticeship, they should be able to dip their toe in the water whenever they fancy but the venom directed atDB by the OP I thought was totally uncalled for.

Just taking a moment out in my little thatched cottage from digging my potatoes, feeding the pig in the kitchen, making soda farls and chatting to the local leprechaun to say that I do love a good glass of wine of an evening. It's my little weakness!

No cleaner, we don't have Waitrose here, and I wish I had the time and freedom to travel round the world.

Yes, have just checked and I joined 2 years ago last month. I tried posting, politely, at that time but was shot down, mostly by the same people who are complaining here. I was told, like someone has just suggested, that as I was new, I should stay silent. I was thoroughly discouraged and lurked but didn't post. Then I gave myself a good talking too, decided not to be intimidated and have recently started posting again. My past unhappy experience of this site was what prompted me to reply in support of the OP here.

Not just Saturday, judthepud2. Sadly, I am about to go out to visit my very elderly mother. It's so ill-mannered to stayed glued to the iPad while there so will have to pass for a while. Just when things were warming up again.....
