Comfortable high heels. Is there such a thing?

I gave up wearing high heels a long time ago - I have problems with my feet because I have hammer toes and so I started to wear very soft 'pumps' for everyday and glittery 'pumps' when I went out. However I really think that high heels look good, and have noticed photos of myself at special occasions wearing a nice outfit and horrible flat shoes that make my legs look terrible and ruin the whole look if I am honest.
Are there any high heels that are actually quite comfortable? I am going to a party in December and would love to wear some heels to go with my dress. Has anyone found any decent high heels? I did try wedge heels for a wedding I went to, but ended up taking them off as soon as I got to the reception. I was in AGONY.

No
I have dodgy knees (possibly wearing high heels in the past has contributed....but it is actually arthritis)
I agree a posh frock just looks wrong with flats Did recently manage a couple of hours at a wedding in low heeled court shoes but wasn't standing much .I took them off to dance
I have with reluctance managed to bring myself to donate most of my heels to charity ,including one beautiful pair of black suede ones with laces up the front and a pair of green suede wedges with a 9cm heel I used to wear for work(they went with a lot of my sumner clothes) .Sob.Have a lovely pair of bright pink wedges I cannot bear to ditch but I do have a pair of flat sandals the same colour that I change into when I can bear them no longer .
I do find platform a or wedges marginally more bearable Saw some low heeled blocked shoes in Sainsbury mag. only £18 I may try ...

I totally sympathise oldgoose. I would love to be able to wear a heeled shoe now and again. Buying footwear is my worst nightmare, I suffer from painful feet and need EE+ fitting but still suffer. I do have a nice pair of heels for special occasions when I know I shall be sitting most of the time. I usually wear comfy shows to and fro an event and change into my smart shoes on arrival. but I resign myself to suffer for a few hours and enjoy looking good for a little while.

Kitten heels are a good compromise in that they are not too high for discomfort but provide a high heel profile to one's legs in dressy clothes.

Try Ecco. They've recently introduced a heel that doesn't feel like a heel. Haven't tried them myself so can't vouch for them personally.

Never mind finding shoes being a problem finding a bra is Horrendous!! Marks and sparks used to be the place to go, not any longer. The choice is unbelievable! Sorry to post on here when it,s about shoes but just another problem for us women ( maybe men too if I am politically correct)

Princess Diana set a fashion for lower heels, because she was taller than Prince Charles and with high heels she would have simply dwarfed him. Her death gave the shoe designers carte blanche to squash women into these death traps and heels have just gone on getting higher ever since. My GD, aged 24, is already having problems with her feet, not unconnected, in my opinion, from unsuitable footwear. I have pretty Gabor shoes with about a 1.5 inch heel which look great and set my ankles off to advantage.

I wore heels for the second time this year at a wedding this weekend - and as usual they came off halfway through. I m going to look at the new Ecco range which looks like it has been ergonomically designed to correctly balance the foot in the shoe. Ecco shoes are so comfortable so I hope they will come up trumps again.

Just bare the pain, it's worth it to look great and not old.

Fancy ankle boots can work, m&s have some suede ruched pointy toe ones that with an LBD

Oldgoose, have a look at the Ecco website. Smart and comfortable, easy to order (and to return if unsuitable).

I too adore wearing heels, clothes look so much better and I wore them 24/7 when I was working. Now retired and suffering from osteoarthritis in one of my knees I find I can't wear them and hate that. I have recently bought a pair of ankle boots with a heel which I fell in love with but I don't know when I will be able to wear them. Waiting for somewhere to go where I don't have to walk! Think I will have to do as Stangran suggests!

I wear wedge sandals in the summer, maximum about two inches but haven't worn closed in shoes with heels for years. However I went to a wedding recently and as I was wearing a knee length dress I decided that I had to wear heels. Got a lovely pair of navy suede court shoes from Shoe zone. They were a very dainty style ( not easy for size 8) and only cost £12 and I they were comfortable all day.

Meant to add that I find the gel pads you put under the ball of your foot are great as they stop your feet sliding forward and squashing your toes

I am the same as I have hammer toes and bone displacia underneath one foot. I was recently attending a wedding and, like yourself, was dreading turning up in glittery flip-flops. I managed to get a pair of platform mules from Shuropody. I managed to wear them until well into the eveningas they very very comfy.

Kitten heals all the way... they give you abit of height to extend the leg and look elegant whilst still being comfortable. Loads of lovely colours available as there very popular.

Ecco make a high heeled shoe that doesn't feel like a high heel apparently. Worth trying on a pair.

Mypennyfarthing41 Wed 02-Nov-16 17:37:16

Oldgoose -
I still wear high heels. And wedges, which I love, however for really comfortable high heels try Gabor... expensive, ?? Ish...Reasonable.
Well, my tootsies love them and are positively tender with my feet so, I do recommend them.
I'm with Joan Collins regarding wearing high heels - if you can of course, but, it's not worth torturing yourself over.

Rub your feet with Ibuprofen gel before a night out in heels! I've heard it works, not tried it yet, but definitely going to for the works Christmas party!

I have found some lovely court shoes at Asda. Also some nice one at Matalan - heel no higher than 2". Have you had a look?

Rosina Wed 02-Nov-16 18:07:38

Hotter shoes with heels are lovely - I bought a pair of 'Donna' heels in black suede and got nice remarks about them, and although they look smart they are like slippers. Couldn't resist a pair in dark blue, so comfortable that I forget I am wearing them.

Bluebell my sympathy regarding arthritis in big toe - I have it as well - painful flowers

Right up to my 30s I wore high heels, even walking all over London thlhmm I now only wear trainers or lovely flat shoes/boots, I do miss my lovely stiletoes, I couldn't wear the mini skirts I wore then either, shame to cover my long legs thlhmm

I tend to live in jeans most of the time so trainers are best & comfortable, Podiatrist also advises trainers as most shoes do not have thick enough soles (Diabetic Type 2) thlconfused

I too have hammer toes but I bought some dancing shoes from a specialist dance shop with low heels and they are the most comfortable shoes I have. The only problem is they have suede soles so are not really suitable for wearing outside but for an indoor party etc they are wonderful!! Hope this is helpful.

Got to be high(ish) heels for going out in nice dress. I love Hobbs or Peter Kaiser. Beautiful & comfortable, fully lined in the softest leather. They work for me & I've got a BUNION! Expensive but we're worth it ☺️
