Hooray - the Conservatives won the election!

Several people on GN made posts saying something like " Hooray - the Conservatives won the election! "

I'd like to ask if they, or anyone else who agrees with them, have seen the film "I, Daniel Blake" and, if so, have they any comment to make?

People who were not happy when the Conservatives won the election, please do not post on this thread.

.....sob....

kittylester Sun 13-Nov-16 18:14:08

Having seen other Ken Loach films I have no interest in seeing this one.

suzied the number of Labour posters is much greater, and they do seem rather more vociferous.

It's Ana, btw.

Jalima Sun 13-Nov-16 18:21:14

I rarely go to the cinema

Penstemmon Sun 13-Nov-16 18:26:46

Ana it is odd how perspectives differ! I would have said that Labour voters were in a minority on GN! That is my feeling when posts get political!

Re KL films..I am confused at your confusion ..I was responding to roses who was assuming what Daniel Blake was like. It was not about deprived people. It was about people.

Ana Sun 13-Nov-16 18:32:57

Very odd that you should think that, Penstemmon, considering how many former teachers, social workers etc. are members, all of whom seem to be staunch Labour supporters!

Penstemmon Sun 13-Nov-16 18:37:03

Well you are free to think it is odd but it is what i feel. I bet there are far more regular 'main paper' DM readers on here than regular 'main paper' Grauniad readers.

Penstemmon Sun 13-Nov-16 18:38:18

oh.. meant to add that teachers are a generally conservative grop of people!

Ana Sun 13-Nov-16 18:41:15

I'm glad you used a small 'c' there, but I still think you're totally wrong!

JessM Sun 13-Nov-16 18:45:45

Pity conservative voters don't go to the film and inform themselves about the true nature of life on benefits in the year 2016.
Along with anyone else who thinks its easy claiming benefits. I thought the film had a very light touch considering the subject.
Austerity has targeted the poorest in the land.

Ana-apologies for typo blame the iPad. Don't know how you work out that Labour posters are more vociferous , seems like the other way to me, just goes to show... Someone should do a scientific analysis ( not me tho )

Ana Sun 13-Nov-16 18:51:32

What makes you say they 'don't go to the film' Jess? Have you got the figures to prove it?

Penstemmon Sun 13-Nov-16 18:53:39

Ana I expect nothing else! Do you thinK there are more Graunaid readers on GN than DM readers..as the main source of news rather than also reads?

Ana Sun 13-Nov-16 18:56:11

There certainly seem to be! Although I suspect many DM readers don't dare to admit to it.

Jalima Sun 13-Nov-16 19:02:46

Thinking have I been asleep and missed another vote?

I too did a double take

I thought most films were about people.

Oh, there was that one on the telly about a canal, just drifting, lovely smile

Jalima Sun 13-Nov-16 19:03:19

And Planet Earth of course

not so lovely last week - ugh! those snakes

Jalima Sun 13-Nov-16 19:04:29

will the film be on the telly?
Can't get to the cinema at the moment, sorry

Are we supposed to do a review like the Book Club thread?

rosesarered Sun 13-Nov-16 19:04:37

This Graunaid thing makes my teeth ache ( it's kind of twee/arch)

Jalima Sun 13-Nov-16 19:05:31

Graunaid? It sounds like a breakfast cereal

rosesarered Sun 13-Nov-16 19:06:16

Jalima when Planet Earth got to the bit where the snakes went eagerly towards the baby lizardy thing, whizzing down the beach.....I switched off fast!

Ana Sun 13-Nov-16 19:12:58

I've managed to avoid seeing that, having been pre-warned!

Jalima Sun 13-Nov-16 19:14:38

I told DH to tell me when it had finished, but I did see the baby iguana reach the beach and his friends!

Anniebach Sun 13-Nov-16 19:14:48

No, didn't cheer when the Tories won the election in 2015

No, have not seen the film , will watch it if and when it is shown on tv

Not deeply interested , I have no time for the new red labour momentum party

Jalima Sun 13-Nov-16 19:15:50

we usually wait until something comes on the tv

rosesarered Sun 13-Nov-16 19:19:58

Phew Jalima that's good ( but no doubt the fate of many others little things is not so good.)
