Any views on faith healing?

I agree with your views entirely janeainsworth, cannot accept that someone sits above and decides who should and should not recover from terrible illnesses and suffering. Mass deaths of babies through starvation? Part of some greater plan? Excuse me but a definite no no.

accupuncture works on nerves/endings- and is a totally different kettle of fish. My OH trained in acupuncture just out of interest- as a sceptic and with 30 years in practice- and was totally amazed by the results with joint pain- for a large % of people.

In Leics I had a wonderful Shiatsu practitioner- who helped me tremendously - again, working on accupressure points, massage and stretches. There is no comparison to Faith Healing- although, as in traditionao medicine too, the placebo effect must take a part.

My faith in rigorously practiced double blind medical trials is extremely strong.

I tried acupuncture for my arthritis. It didn't work. I tried various NLP methods for my arthritis. Didn't work. I tried glucosamine. Didn't work.

Double blind trial tested painkillers (various) give the most effective relief.

There's no cure but I'm pinning my hopes (for others, in the future) on gene modopification or some other ground-breaking new medical whizz.

In desperation a few years back when I had awful sciatica, I booked a session with a Reiki practitioner. I'd tried everything else so thought I'd give it a go.
I went to this woman's house and lay on a massage couch in her sitting room. I felt daft! She was plainly a nice woman and very sincere. I just lay there with my eyes closed and she did her thing whatever that was. She didn't touch me at all. I paid and left. Back home, sitting gingerly at my desk I suddenly felt an icy cold trickle down my right side. Pain went completely. Having had sciatica off and on for years, I never had it again. No explanation but I'm not complaining. Also I won't slag off Reiki!!

My husband started learning Reiki for his pain. I still have the course somewhere. He gave up when it started to become too religious for him.

Like you, say, it's an odd shape. Apparently I don't have the flexion in it. I have physio, every two weeks, paying for it. You can imagine what I think about that!

Can't chop veg properly, which is sad for a vegetarian. I do exercises to try and build up the strength.
I have enough strength to grip and turn a steering wheel now, but not to use a knife.
We both need to have more faith in healing.

Had success with Reiki for painful knees.

Your wrist still painful DJ? People keep commenting what a strange shape mine is - it's definitely 'healed' out of line.

I did get NHS physio, but to be honest, it was a waste of time. I paid for two private seasons and that was much better. I've been doing the exercises and, this week, I can feel an improvement. It's still an odd shape but now at least I can take some weight on it.

Would really recommend a good private physio. Mine was recommend by DS who is always injuring something.

Jane, I'd like my wrist to heal properly, too. Maybe that's what the NHS thought would happen when they said I didn't need physio, it would heal because because of my faith in alternative medicine.

Well at least we now know re-incarnation on GN is a reality.

Some years ago DS was in an awful state with apparent allergies and anaphylaxis which seemed to be psychological but had very physical effects. Special diets and seeing his GP didn't seem to help. On holiday in Naples I found a church dedicated to a doctor who had many miraculous cures attributed to him and a brought home a prayer card from it. DS was appalled when I gave it to him because his level of atheism makes Richard Dawkins look like an early christian martyr. However he didn't have any more attacks and there were no more dashes to A&E. If you ask him about it he will deny the whole thing.

I entirely agree Anniebach. I feel sorry for the 'science can explain everything' people. I am absolutely sure there is a need to keep an open mind and a questing heart.

Jane, can everything be explained by scientific knowledge ? Did you need scientific knowledge to explain why you fell madly in love ? , doubt it, you just accepted and returned the love . So I think it's the same with healing which has no scientific evidence , just accept it with gratitude

PS Already asking the Lord! Just remember that the answer is not always straightforward. Sometimes it is 'Yes', sometimes 'No', other times it can be 'Not yet' and yet other times it is 'That is not my way'. I expect I have missed some too!

Well I would be grateful if someone would pray that my knee's range of movement would improve!
I didn't mean this topic to wander into religious beliefs btw. I was just interested in, for want of better words, healing that that can't be explained by current scientific knowledge.

Luckygirl I think you are quite right there. In Mark 10:18 Jesus said, "No one is good but God alone".

Perhaps we need to agree to disagree here. With a subject as potentially volatile as this, each contributor is pointing out his / her opposing views. That's fine in this particular part of the world (I am thinking Europe here) and in today's society, but in different societies and certainly in past societies, such differing views led, and still do lead, to wars and persecution. I am convinced that each opposing side of this debate will never convince the other side to accept their point of view. Btw I am of Granjura's opinion! I think I will leave this discussion too now.
