I watched the episode of her Royle nana death the other evening. I'm sorry to hear this real life repeat. RIP Liz.

I first remember her in 'i didn't know you cared' and loved the characters she played.

Its funny in both Dibley and Royle her characters had passing away shows.
The Royle one was the repeat after Ricky Tomlinson's Who do you think you are.
I can recall the Dibley one, where she was ill and dawn French in character with other cast acted it out ,and then when the parish council meeting took place her place was absent if I recall.

Brilliant character actress, Liz had a good life and a long one so can't be too sad.
God Bless.

JoyBloggs Tue 27-Dec-16 09:26:30

Such a good actress, loved her in The Royle Family and Vicar of Dibley.

TerriBull Tue 27-Dec-16 09:27:56

Just loved her as nana in The Royle Family. The much missed Caroline Aherne really cast her characters well in her wonderfully observed and beautifully scripted series.

DaphneBroon Tue 27-Dec-16 14:15:38

Oh, no, what is going on this year?
sadsad

mrsmopp Tue 27-Dec-16 14:31:57

So many deaths of famous people this year, it's been exceptional hasn't it?
David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Terry Wogan, George Martin, Paul Daniels, Ronnie Corbett, Victoria Wood, Muhammad Ali, Caroline Aherne, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Rick Parfitt, Liz Smith and George Michael.
And five days to go before the end of the year. Hope there's no more.
Never known a year like it.

NfkDumpling Tue 27-Dec-16 14:46:15

Apparently, according to More or Less (radio4, it was only the first three months of 2016 when celebrity deaths were up by I think 30%. Then it was back to normal levels - until December.

Charleygirl Tue 27-Dec-16 14:50:09

I loved her in the Royla Family. I had no idea that she was 95 years old- she has had a good innings.

Ana Tue 27-Dec-16 14:53:23

She always seemed like a wise old bird - what a great character actress!

Charleygirl Tue 27-Dec-16 15:00:01

Even Royle, my finger slipped.

Elrel Tue 27-Dec-16 15:26:41

NFK - Thanks, I was trying to quote that to family but couldn't even remember the name of More or Less. Good programme!

grannypiper Tue 27-Dec-16 16:18:26

She was Nana to us all. Xxx

merlotgran Tue 27-Dec-16 18:56:35

mrsmopp Tue 27-Dec-16 20:36:55

Must be a bug going round.....

NfkDumpling Wed 28-Dec-16 07:03:56

Perhaps it's because we have so many more celebrities nowadays the death rate is bound to be higher?

(Making excuses here, as it's getting rather scary!)

NanKate Wed 28-Dec-16 07:15:02

What a great character actress Liz Smith was, acting up until quite recently.
