I need a new pair of jeans, I have always worn them , but hurtling towards 70years old I wonder if I can still wear jeans and then I can't decide on what style, I like the skinny look but I don't have skinny legs, I would love to look effortlessly chic in jeans ,What do other GN,s think?

I don't think anyone, men or women, however skinny they are, looks good in jeans over the age of fifty.

Skinny women sometimes think they can get away with it but there is usually a change in tummy shape after fifty which is not a good look.

Other types of trousers are OK, but if a woman is at all hippy, as most of us are, a long top to cover the lumpy bits is essential.

No-one is too old for jeans, as long as you pick the style which flatters you. Now I am retired, I wear M&S jeggings most of the time. I usually pick them up in the M&S outlet and have lots of colours. They are so comfy and the style suits me as I am a small lady. They look good with either sweaters or tunics. In winter I wear boots, in summer loafers or ballet pumps.

Don't think I'll be seen in ones with torn knees any time soon. What on earth are they all about?

Bellanonna Sun 29-Jan-17 16:04:42

Nearly always jeans, usually straight-leg, often jeggings, I like ankle boots and flat pumps so they go together. I do own trousers too but they are usually for when I feel the need to dress up. I'm 76 and don't see what age has to do with anything. I think because so many people of all ages now wear jeans they don't identify with any age in particular. ?

Now I'm retired I wear jeans most days so if I can't wear jeans when I'm 70 I'm going to be going round in my knickers !

Can't see why I wouldn't / couldn't wear them .

I am 66 this year and live in jeans. I have absolutely no intention of stopping, ever.
I wear them to be smart too.
I look best in bootleg ones.

Jalima Sun 29-Jan-17 16:00:02

You must have bought the last ones MawBroon sad

MawBroon Sun 29-Jan-17 15:57:20

I love my jeans (always dark indigo) but recently bought some LandsEnd "sport knit cords" in their sale. Yes elastcated waist, but slightly tapered legs and these are the most comfortable trousers I have ever known which still look smart smile
I got black, grey and dark navy and they were only £13 a pair - result!!

Bijou, your well meant I,m sure, comments on jeans are exactly what prompted me to ask my post , but luckily most of the other ladies are positive about wearing jeans when older, ,There are more women looking good in jeans than not, Each to their own I say ,

I wear Jeans all the time I am 67 years old and getting close to 68. I don't have much of a social life, but if I go anywhere nice then it is black trousers with a pretty top. I do not have much money with the huge expense of xmas just gone. I say wear what you want and feel comfy in,folk have better things to do than check out what we are wearing

chrislou Sun 29-Jan-17 15:19:08

Of course you can I wear the Per Una ones straight leg type and they look fine with boots. My children always buy me a couple of pairs for Christmas so they can't look that bad on me, otherwise it would be "oh no mother"!!

Jalima Sun 29-Jan-17 15:15:54

Oh dear, I usually wear trousers and rarely wear a skirt.

No, I don't look at my backside usually but I did see a photo of it recently hence the diet blush

Bijou Sun 29-Jan-17 15:11:41

I don't think jeans regardless of age look good on any woman. They should only be worn for indoors or for gardening. Few women have the figure for trousers and I am sure that women don't look at their backsides in the mirror.

Why wear what everyone else wears, like a uniform?
LesleyC those are exactly DH's thoughts too! He has never owned a pair of jeans. Someone in a pub once said to him that they couldn't ever join the Forces because they wouldn't like to wear a uniform - DH pointed to the man's jeans then said 'look round the pub, you're all wearing a uniform!'. grin

Remember the Neil Diamond song - Forever In Blue Jeans. That's us.

You wear whatever you like and don't let anyone tell you you're too old/they don't suit you or anything else. I live in jeans/leggings because they are comfortable and not expensive and since I am a full-time carer I rarely go out socially, when I enjoy putting on a dress/bit of lippy etc/smarter shoes - viiting the local corner store is normally quite an adventure! - so just please myself.

newnanny Sun 29-Jan-17 14:20:15

Hell yes. Wear whatever you are comfortable in.

Gaggi3 Sun 29-Jan-17 14:20:01

I like Sainsbury's Tu range of straight leg jeans, which fit well. If I live to be 90 I'll probably still be wearing jeans.

LesleyC Sun 29-Jan-17 14:02:00

I have always hated jeans and never wore them when I was young. Why wear what everyone else wears, like a uniform? I did buy a pair a few years ago and only wear them in the house and garden, or for a walk. I am 70 too and I don't find them very comfortable. I don't even think Mary Berry looks very appropriate in them, although she has the figure for them. Just my opinion and most of my friends still wear them, but I just don't feel right, even though I am fairly slim.

nellgwin Sun 29-Jan-17 13:52:06

I have always worn jeans through out my 70years, my friend of 74 informed me that you shouldn't wear jeans if you were over 60, and she was wearing a very jazy pair at the time!
Da! Go ahead girl we can wear what we like and behave as we like we have earned the right.
Long live jeans, wine etc etc ?

dogsmother Sun 29-Jan-17 13:32:29

I go between M&S Jeggings and Levi's, but the treat is a visit to London Levi shop and being advised on size and fit ? Never been let down yet!
The staff really know which ones suit best, love jeans.

Sheilasue Sun 29-Jan-17 13:22:40

Still wear them and I am 72 this year. Nice stretchy ones, very comfortable

hildajenniJ Sun 29-Jan-17 13:14:29

I love my jeans! Just recently, my DH suggested that I should try jeggings. I'd always been shy of those because they are tight legged. Wow! I tried them and love them. I even bought some leggings to wear with my long tunic tops. At Christmas my husband overhead one of his relatives saying to another "isn't Hilda brave, I wouldn't dare wear leggings". grin

mags1234 Sun 29-Jan-17 13:08:16

I'm 67, wearing jeans as I write. A lot depends on the style and cut. Go to somewhere like Debenhams where they have a personal shopper and she can advise which style is best on you. Kinda depends on your own shape and legs.

Legs55 Sun 29-Jan-17 12:47:33

I am almost 62, worn jeans most of my life & have no intention of giving them up. Mostly M & S Jeans or Jeggings (my favourite), several pairs in navy for Winter. Summer I have many pairs, some full length, some cropped. If I'm going out I've got some lovely blouses/shirts to wear.smile
