I get asked "am I speaking to Mrs.J.Bloggs" ?
The first name is what they assume my name to be but they inveriably get it wrong so I truthfully tell them "there's no J Bloggs living here. Occasionally they apologise but often the phone just goes dead.
I had a call this morning, the line was complety silent I said hello a couple of times then an automated voice said "Goodbye" and it went dead. That one actually made me smile.

I think the medical supplies one is probably genuine, every 28 days they ring me to see if I need an order fulfilling. They are in the process of changing their delivery arrangements and have been informing clients. You only need to make a mistake with one digit to get a wrong number.
I have never had a call from TPS and we have been with them for many years.

I had a phone call just the other day, the o.h. answered and handed the receiver to me - voice on the other end "Hi D....." me"My name is MRS " Dialling tone - I have not tried that one before, must try it again, should the occasion occur.

I heard it too Baden. How can people get a kick out of something so mean?

Thank you mcem. I was right then, it is a scam. The strong accent made me suspicious and it would be easy to see how some people will be taken in.

I was listening to You and Yours this lunchtime and apparently there's an app which will ring people and, as a joke(!!), play aggressive complaints at them, such as they've scratched the car of the person phoning, or they've used their wifi without asking, or used someone else's credit card on Amazon. The person who's using the app against someone can listen to their replies - but people are obviously getting very frightened by these calls, because they are done in an very aggressive way.

A few months ago I had the 'TPS call' and after a few minutes he explained that they needed my bank details (surprise!) and for a small monthly subscription they'd guarantee I'd have no more cold calls!
Didn't take him up on his kind offer.

I had to genuine wrong number calls yesterday.

I answered the phone and this man said 'Hallo, this X medical supplies company. Me: Who? Him: is that Sarah-Jane? Me: No. Him: I am sorry I have a wrong number. Five minutes later the same thing again, this time in search of Sally. Him: Oh dear, we have just updated our system, and something must have gone wrong. I will have to make sure we remove this number (mine) from all records.

Since we have never ever dealt with a medical supplies company of any kind. I cannot imagine how our number found it's way on to the system in the first place.

I got a call on my mobile while on the train yesterday. Thinking it was nuisance call, I said I was sorry I had never heard of the company. Just as I was about to hang up, the lady managed to get a word in and tell me my new sofa was being delivered on Tuesday!grin I then had to apologise profusely for my tone.

Never had a call from them.

But there again, if the call comes up as Withheld or unavailable, we dont answer them.
Ditto any 10 digit numbers, as they seem dodgy too!

Thanks to Wobblybits, we are about to try this and see what happens.

That's good!

I wish I'd kept him going now so I could find out what he was trying to sell.

They wouldn't ring you nfk . They are set up to prevent unwanted calls.
I have finally ditched my landline because of these calls and simply block them on my mobile.
BTW there don't seem to be any "pendants" hanging around ?

Never had a call from them, and I've been with the TPS for years.

This morning I had a call from a young man with a very thick Indian accent who said his name was Sam! I very politely told him that I didn't understand what he was saying and hung up. He didn't call back.

Not a title to endear me to the GN pendants but... over lunchtime I've had a couple of those recorded calls which I hang up on after the 'Hello, thi'; one 'Is that the householder? and the last one - 'Is that Mrs Doompling? This is the Telephone PreFerence Service, my name is Tom'. Really? Why would they be phoning me? I hung up.

I'm now wondering if it really was the Telephone Preference Service. Has anyone else had a call from them?
