I think that's a very good point GracesGran2
I remember my grandma and grandpa didn't have a fridge - I don't think many older people did then. They had some sort of "larder" under the stairs that they managed to keep cool somehow. They were used to, and perfectly satisfied with, that arrangement. My parents, whilst they were nowhere near as well off as my grandparents, bought a fridge. Isn't it natural that younger people tend to be more open to new things and more likely to want to acquire them, especially if they save time and energy?
I, like many others, experienced a freezing cold house with no central heating, chilblains, holidays spent in shabby caravans on dismal caravan sites, etc. etc. I feel that that is no reason for me to begrudge young people a better life. Unfortunately, I feel that - despite these sorts of material and energy-saving advances - in many ways their lives are more difficult and stressful.
