Late September. Those bright, clear, sunny days when the sky is the deepest, clearest blue and the leaves on the trees are beginning to turn to reds and golds. The weather is often just warm enough to get out and about with just a light jacket on. Hedgerows are beginning to show their blackberries, elderberries, sloes and cob nuts. And the best bit is that amazing smell, early in the morning when you first go outdoors and can smell slightly warmed damp earth and the dew on the grass looks like carpets of diamonds. I love early autumn, even the misty grey ethereal days. Worth waiting 9 months for!
