I think it's only one private school introducing a non gender specific uniform policy at the moment, not schools in general.
I don't like the term non-binary cos it doesn't make sense. Transgender is much more sensible as it says what it is.
I have no problem with children being aware that there are people who have been born into the wrong body. Most people from an early age simply know what they are. I know I am a female and can't imagine being a male. My husband just knows he's a male and can't imagine being female. As do my children and grandchildren. I don't think it will lead to any confusion for the children as long as adults don't make a fuss about it. Children aren't daft. They know that not all people are the same and accept it far more easily than adults seem to do.
