Hi me my daughter and my grandson went shopping this morning to buy all of his new school uniform as he is starting secondary school in September.
I bought all of his new uniform as I agreed with my daughter that I was going to. The cost was quite expensive. If you had to buy uniform this year how much did it cost?
My grandsons uniform I bought him 2 of everything
School jumper with school logo £11
School polo shirt with school logo £9
Black school trousers £7
School shoes £2
Pe top £10
Pe shorts £7

Thanks Tree100 for kicking off what has evolved into a very amusing thread (even if Mr Newquay doesn't think so! That's men for you!)

I didn't mind hockey ann but I hated the gym. All those ropes, vaults and "horses". And those wooden bar things. Not my cup of tea at all. Now a modern gym, with bikes and treadmills ... much better.
We had to go up to a specialist uniform shop in London for the initial uniform outlay, then there were often school sales after that. Ours was a rather "poncy" uniform, thankfully done away with later on. My GC can get theirs anywhere as long as it's the school colours. GS starting in September has to get a sweatshirt with the school logo but other bits can come from anywhere, I wonder if Tree100 could let me know where the £2 shoes are? Like her, I'd be happy to buy two pairs. Absolute bargain.

Ps last year when my school attending GS was staying for a few days ,he came home with a torn sleeve in his jumper, it cost £19 to replace it as it had to come from the specialist shop.

I didn't realise what I was missing, saw the header, thought oh not again and ignored it. Today I wondered how it could possibly have reached 4 pages so I read it.
What a tonic to start the day.Sadly for me it has all been said so I can't contribute, except to say that 2 of my GC are home schooled so please what is Shoe zone and gym kit, they just take the dog for a walk and climb trees to get the cats down, no freezing cold playing fields for them.
I look on my times playing hockey as the worst time of my young life.

Just read some of these out to my (by now perplexed DH)-his comment "have they nothing else to do?" Cheek!

Bellanonna Tue 22-Aug-17 08:54:36

Why didn't he just ride it Nana confused?

aggie Tue 22-Aug-17 08:49:42

GC wear kilts as uniform , we pass them down , I am a dab hand at Darning in tartan , it is so satisfying when one can get the darns to join up , can,t think why youngest is not happy

NanaandGrampy Tue 22-Aug-17 08:46:13

It was the pony that finished our chauffeur off .

Christinefrance Tue 22-Aug-17 08:45:43

Oh harrigran surely you have an assistant chauffeur to help with the luggage, Put an ad in Lady magazine, you could send the valet of course.

harrigran Tue 22-Aug-17 08:35:47

We bought the same tuck box but the chauffeur complained it was too heavy to lug up to the dorm, tough, Tarquin always has the best.

Vans are a "label" trainer , very popular with the trendy.

Grandma2213 Tue 22-Aug-17 03:28:49

There should be a laughing out loud, rolling around with tears spouting out smiley! I have so enjoyed this post. What a hilarious witty lot you grans are!!

Just looked up 'Vans' - Is this an updated 'old woman who lives in a shoe' story. Surely that would be posher than a cardboard box on the M6 (unless it was a Vans shoe box of course).

Jalima1108 Mon 21-Aug-17 23:34:06

Tell your DD that Vans are so 'last year' FarNorth.

ninathenana Mon 21-Aug-17 23:30:47

Alcohol for the kiddies phoenix ?
I get it you want to get them expelled to save you the fees.

Chewbacca Mon 21-Aug-17 21:53:25

Why phoenix you've just described our mid week tea time fayre! Nothing fancy. My little cheeries prefer the sort of food that their nanny gave them in the nursery. Spotted Dick; jam roly poly, corned beef hash etc. I'm afraid your tuck box contents wouldn't pass muster.

Lona Mon 21-Aug-17 21:53:03

At the moment they're sleeping in a cardboard box on the M56.

Lona Mon 21-Aug-17 21:52:09

Tuck box!!? Bed !? My gc would love that box to live in!

phoenix Mon 21-Aug-17 21:39:16

Now, to the contents, foi gras, natch, Duchy Originals Oat Biscuits, Pol Roger Pure Champagne, non vintage but a bargain at £47.50 a bottle, never mind that it is sans dosage and tastes like sucking a mouthful of swarf (don't even ask me how I know, the memory is still too raw)

Larks tongues in aspic, roasted dodo from the last breeding pair discovered by David Attenborough, long life zebra milk, and of course those coffee beans that have passed through the digestive system of some sort of monkey before being harvested by gilded Nubian boys, then ground in platinum mortars with ivory pestles by certified virgins from families removed no more than three times from a current reigning Royal Family.

Crafting Mon 21-Aug-17 21:31:31

Bed, bed! Lona' GC don't have time to sleep they need to be down the pits looking for coal to keep their poor granny warm this winter.grin

Crafting Mon 21-Aug-17 21:29:15

This is the best fun we've had on GN for ages grin. Anyone new not knowing what was going on would think we'd gone bonkers. Perhaps we should suggest GNHQ upload this thread to Facebook and let them pick the bones out of that. ?

FarNorth Mon 21-Aug-17 21:26:25

I bought Vans for my DGD and now my DD is moaning non stop and insisting I buy some for her too, as she never had those for school.
Should I buy some (I can't really afford it) or should I take my DGD's Vans back to the shop. They are not much worn.

trisher Mon 21-Aug-17 21:26:18

I think Lona's GCs would regard that as some sort of bed Chewbacca

Chewbacca Mon 21-Aug-17 21:18:31

Primark? Heaven forfend! This is the tuck box my little cheeries will be trudging off to school with. A snip at only £925. Naturally, they have one each, plus a spare.

lemongrove Mon 21-Aug-17 21:11:12

Do Primark sell them?

lemongrove Mon 21-Aug-17 21:10:46

It has to be done, you know how those top public schools underfeed their pupils, a tuck box is essential.
