I used to work for a charity as a benefits adviser, this was in the AA and DLA days. The thing that used to frustrate me was that while people with very simple problems and often, I considered, to be marginal for a disability benefit, seemed to get disability benefits almost by return of post, people with really severe disabilities and many and complex problems often had their application turned down and we would have to go to appeal,
My assumption was that, as these applications are more or less scored' by fairly junior clerks with little medical background. Those with simple problems they understood got the benefit but anyone with complex needs and illnesses they hadn't heard of, got turned down.
glammanana PIP came in after my time.
