Soop's special kitchen for like-minded folk and treasured pets

Good morning all.
What started as a bright morning has now become quite dull, ah well November's here.
I am having quite a tough time with H , his decline is accelerating just now, I have had to make him have a shower and change his clothes this morning, personal hygiene is becoming an issue and he has become very "nowty".
That is all I shall say and will try and concentrate on positives.
Not many of those actually, my S is back with us ,having another depressive episode, but it does mean I am getting my garden sorted for the winter and and when a friend took me shopping yesterday, I stayed out for over 3 hours knowing he was at least here.
One of my D's cats , not the one that bit her, has been in collision with a car and has a fractured pelvis, he is expected to make a good recovery but is on cage rest for 4weeks. That is not going to be easy once he feels better and can weight bear.

Bit stressed here this morning. The people that bought our house have had their solicitor write to us as when we took out 2 wardrobes in the house there was no skirting or coving behind them. We offered them £100 to replace these ( about 6ft of each) . Today they sent us a quote for £500 which included painting doors and radiators:-(

Obviously we're seriously unhappy with this and are now faced with either paying up or getting a solicitor of our own to write back etc. The possibility of ending up at small claims with a bill far larger than £500 also lingers.

You lot know how they messed us around and late in the process begged us to drop the price by another £1000 to facilitate them. So really feel they are taking the mickey.

So , currently feeling a bit stressed by the unknown.

The thing that made me smile yesterday was this picture from Jackson. At their Halloween event there were scary animals....and he got to hold a snake and a tarantula !! His Mum sent me videos and in the snake one , he was saying' I got to hold a super heavy snake' !! I just love his smile x

Oh Ann. It never rains but it pours. I’m sorry that things are so tough at the moment. Good, though, that you managed to get a little respite from it all with your friend. ?

About 15 years ago we bought a semi for our S and his partner, long story, the vendors did exactly the same messing about N&G it went on for many months and all ended in a rushed completion.
When we got possession, I cannot tell you the mess they had left behind, one of the most annoying was replacing a toilet which had apparently been broken with a much smaller one which left exposed wall and concrete round the base.
Also when a bed has been moved there was bare, badly finished plaster where they had rammed an iron bed frame in too small a plce
They had been such unpleasant people to deal with, we just got on and had the jobs done.
A bit of skirting is very small beer and should not cost much at all.
Good luck with it all and don't let it spoil your pleasure in your new life.

The decorator starts on the hall, landing and stairs on Monday - the first time I have paid someone to decorate for me. I aim to do the kitchen while he is here. Or perhaps the week after .

Good morning all, reading your exploits but having written AND LOST a long post suffice it to say I am no longer a Christmas Bah Humbugger (?) as we now have a plan for the festive season which does not either involve travelling (a no no) or hunkering down alone with our turkey drummers and somehow just about pleases all of the people most of the time.
It was preying on my mind and making me quite unhappy but I won’t bore you with the details. Anyway, a qualified Hoorah for ? !

Didn’t they have a survey done? Interior details (not counting deliberate damage as annsixty experienced are their responsibility and you have been more than reasonable. I hope your solicitor sends them packing as they are frankly trying it in.
Still leaves a sour taste.
Annsixty my heart goes out to you, will having your son help to distract your OH and share your burden at all?

Oh NandG It sounds as though your buyers are really trying it on, determined to get that money out of you by hook or by crook. £500 to replace a bit of coving and skirting board! Silly suggestion, but could Grampy offer to do the work for them? Presumably you didn't spot the problem 'til it was too late to fix it yourselves.
As we moved house many years ago we discovered a huge crack in the plaster board behind our massive wardrobe. Luckily for us the new buyers weren't bothered. However, after knocking down some interior walls, the chap came to see us some months later to complain that the bath had been leaking, allegedly ever since they moved in. Really??
Moving house is always a nightmare, isn't it? Hope you manage to get this sorted soon.

I had a lovely day yesterday at the Lincoln meet-up in Grantham, chatting to callgirl about holidays in Muasdale. Were your ears burning soop ?
I'm off on a trawl of the local charity shops today to find some garments for GS to wear for their WW2 week at school next week. I found a heavy woollen coat in Grantham which he may refuse to wear because it buttons the wrong way so is obviously a girl's, and he always comes out of school half dressed because he's too hot.

Are you sure N&G that my ghastly builders had not given the quote- thinking that it was easy pickings from you. They want extra dosh at a time when you can ill afford to pay. £500 would be better spent on your own "new" home.

Ann I am so sorry to hear that you are having problems with H's personal hygiene. I do think that the time is fast approaching when you are going to need help for him.

At least you can pop out knowing that your son will be at home to keep H company and hopefully safe.

A bit of help changing the bed!

Hi all , been off line by courtesy of BT . We are moving round the corner to a new build granny flat beside our DD, so asked for phone and internet to be moved ......... what a load of you know what ........ we are to be without land line and internet till they get round to reconnecting ! Nothing we could say or do , they pulled the plug and now GP , OT etc have lost us and I am sitting in DSs house trying to catch up . Only got an hour so catch up with you all next week

Charleyg We're needing to do the Tesco shop tomorrow morning (instead of Friday). If this kitchen door closes in the meantime, please would one of our Granspals do the honour of opening the new kitchen. The title seems befitting. Shall we continue to use it? Cushions laundered. Pet hair disposed of. Cooker cleaned and a selection of calorie-free cakes in the larder. All we shall need is a key (under the flower pot) and crowd of rowdy individuals to sing the opening song...the one that goes - 'Here we are again, happy as can be...' You must be familiar with the words by now. As for the tune - anything goes!

Soop, yes, we had a very pleasant time yesterday, along with meeting Scribbles and Nandalot, just a pity thst Teetime didn`t make it. We all gave into temptation and had fish and chips x 4, they were delicious.

Would you like us to pop round to your old house and show the new owners how to fit a bit of skirting board? Don't mind a spot of gardening next time we come but I was always told you should leave the garden alone for a year when you move house, and take a note of what might appear when or where, before you decide what you want to dig up or keep

ann you're having a trying time again. Thank goodness for friends who help you cope.

Maw pleased to hear you've got a satisfactory Christmas solution. My DS will be working most of Christmas (including overnighters) and in a moment of madness I offered to do the festive feast here, so he could just relax and sleep at home. I know he finds my home a bit small when we're all in it and DGS gets a bit hyper, but he did say he'd think about it.

Goodness, n&g gold plated skirting indeed. Could you ask to see three quotations for the work or alternatively suggest a tradesman you know of in your old area? Alternatively I’ll send Mr C round. Flipping cheek comes to mind. Love the smiling face but not the snake, think I’d prefer the tarantula.

So sorry life is so difficult ann. It feels like nagging but maybe it’s time for some outside support. Only so much you can do alone.

Pleased you are more at ease about Christmas maw. Ours is very uncertain this year and it has put a damper on my thinking about it. .

Afraid my sleep, or rather non-sleep pattern is very entrenched greyd and charley. Flipping pain it is too. I wonder sometimes if I would be a genius if I could sleep ?

Finished our bit of decorating today, what a relief. Pleased with it so a big tick there. Pretty tired tonight so hope for a peaceful night

Thank you Maw. I must say that I had not looked at the thread, not realising it was Annie, because I have spent some time today with a friend who lost her own daughter recently.

Poor Annie. This is so so sad and I just hope someone is with her tonight.
