My claim to fame is I have spoken on the phone to Princess Diana's mother. Back in the distant past I was a shipping clerk in London and the company shipped Shand Kidd wallpapers. Mr Kidd at the time was having a relationship with Diana's mother and she helped him with the business. We always referred to her as Lady Althorpe when speaking to her.

What's your claim to fame

glamma It was a wonderful time in my opinion. Although I saw the Beatles most times they came to Birmingham and lots of other groups/stars too, I always envied the girls who actually saw them in the early days in Liverpool. Lucky you smile George spoke to a group of us once, he was the (imagined) love of my life!

In my much younger working days, on a business trip to Rome, sitting at the next table to Sophia Loren in the restaurant at the Hotel Excelsior in Rome.
I found it difficult to concentrate on the wonderful food.

When was in a little town in Herefordshire we used to go to a little restaurant which was regularly frequently used by Nigel Kennedy - as a classical violinist myself we became good mates. At music college Steve Isserlis was a fellow student and I spent some time staying with his family - still regard him as a little brother.

Got to know the Crankies quite well when they used to come into our shop in Torquay. They were very nice. He was really funny all the time and she was quite serious.
Also served Jim Davidson, he put his items on credit so when I knew he was finishing his stint at the local theatre I had to go and remind him he hadn't paid his bill (about £200). He promised to leave a cheque for the me the following day but he'd had a few drinks and I thought he would forget. However as promised the cheque was waiting next morning as promised. Thanks Jim!

Well I went to one of the queens garden parties with my d a few years ago. She strolled around and stopped to talk to a couple of people next to me, I could have reached out and touched her hand but I didn't.

I was in the same class as Justin Haywood at junior school.

I helped Mrs Thatcher (when she was Prime Minister) to move the furniture for a meeting at 10 Downing Street. I was the civil servant taking notes of the meeting, but she didn't like the room layout and asked me to help her shift the tables and chairs!

I saw Bob Geldoph sleeping on a sofa in our hotel reception!

When I was a student the dear old Queen Mother came to our college to officially open it . (St. Mary's, Durham.)
We each had to stand outside the door to our room and as she passed bobbed a curtsey. Late '50s.

I, along with my mum & 2 daughters, once sat opposite Anton Rodgers (Fresh Fields/May to December) on a train out of Paddington. He was very friendly & chatty and even shared his packet of Rolos with us.

My frien and I went into a lift that only had one other person, Terance Stamp and funny enough we needed the same floor as him. Lovely man with beautiful eyes.

Met princess Anne few times because she is patron of the home I work for. Poured a glass of champagne for David Attenborough and Richard Dawkins and many other famous faces at a charity do

My DH's parents live next door to Bob Geldof and have attended family events - happy and sad. My DH went to the wedding when he married Paula Yates and rubbed shoulders that day with many 'stars' including George Michael who sang with no flashy acoustic equipment. DH said he had a truly amazing voice.

What was rather funny is that the press were all lined up outside the church, cordons in place and lenses at the ready to snap the celebs who were attending. My man cut rather a dashing figure in those days and he said there was a distinct buzz, followed by the murmur of 'Who's he?!' when he turned up at the church and was let in by security. smile

I served Anthony Quinn in a skiing shop in Kensington in the 70's and before that met princess Margarets children when they came to a birthday party at the place that I worked. And Bonnie Langford when out in London with my son's she was lovely and the boys had a photo with her.

In 1953 I was running my hometown stand at the Rhodes Centenary Exhibition in Bulawayo Southern Rhodesia. My stand was visited by Peter Sallis (Cleggy in Last of the summer wine) and Basil Henson who invited me to lunch. I accepted and at the lunch we were joined by Sir John Gielgud. They were there appearing in Richard 11.
I was also invited and accepted an invitation to a reception at Government house which was attended by The Queen Mother and Princess Margaret.

Frank Ifield once said 'that's a bad cough' to my two year old daughter, a long time ago.

Just remembered that my ex is also quite friendly with Kriss Akabussi after working with him on his pet charity in Nigeria. My ex went to Nigeria with him and I've met him many times, including going to his daughters 18th birthday party at his house, several years ago.

Some years ago my former H and I spent a weekend at a hotel in Cambridge, I think it was The University Arms but not sure of the name now.
We went in for breakfast, chose a table, I put my glass of juice on the table and hung my bag on the back of the chair while we went to the buffet. When we returned to the table a lady was sitting there and I had to ask her to move as we were already at that table. She did move to another table and it was only when her husband joined her that I realised she was Prunella Scales! Later we spotted a theatre poster featuring the two of them in the reception area.
I've also spoken to and obtained the autograph of Rudolf Nureyev twice. Once at Covent Garden and once at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford after he had performed. Always remembered a dark blue Bentley with flowers all along the back window and a silver haired older lady inside, waiting for him. I often wondered who she was.

Silly one I know but....I sat next to Mr Blobbys brother at Junior school ?

A group of us chased a very scared Ray and Dave Davies (from The Kinks) around the streets of Birmingham. I'm not sure what we would have done with them if we'd caught them! From the sublime to the ridiculous - in the days of Crossroads, I would regularly see members of the cast walking around Birmingham city centre. I saw Lulu shopping in the city and David Soul (who I loved at the time) shook my hand.

two claims to fame ...
In the sixties I answered an ad for a second hand car.
When I arrived at the London address, it was Margot Fonteyn selling it. A nice Hillman Minx, and I had it for years.
She was charming and so gracious that to this day I have no idea how much I paid for the car.
And currently, I regularly chat to Michael Carrick (Man. United fame) in GS's playground when we both go to pick up the children.
He is friendly and easy to get on with. We discuss the prowess of the school team....well he does ....I just nod knowingly.

petra Fri 29-Sept-17 12:41:43

My biggest claim to fame is someone you've probably never heard of, Mark Wolff, but I'm sure many of you have seen his films. If you've seen Cliff Hanger, he was the helicopter pilot. Mission Impossible, same again, most of the latest James Bond films.
We sold a boat to him in the late 90s and he stayed with us for a few days while the survey was done. Fascinating stories from him particularly about his two close friends, Steven Spielberg and Jimmy Carter.
When the deal was done he asked us to take ( with him &. family) to their new berth in Chelsea.

Ken Dodd (twice) after a Dinner/Cabaret got his autograph & a tickling stick + a kiss.

When working as a waitress I served Stuart Hall (charming man), Denis Law (Manchester United footballer) & Martin Dobson (Burnley footballer, my team)

Martin Dobson & his wife moved into a house near my DM, became quite friendly with his wife.

Met Seb Coe when he lived in Twickenham & he went to his "Local" for Lunch.

DD met Kriss Akabusi when he came to her School.

Oops! Thirdinline. I forgot the 'in'.

MissAdventure Fri 29-Sept-17 12:27:45

I think he asked me in about 1985, thirdline. I wonder if anyone ever said yes? grin
