Tight Under Trousers

I work in a care home and we are only supposed to wear flat shoes so I wore a pair of boots to work as it is rele wet and windy here today and was just changing my boots to my flat shoes when one of my work colleagues remarked that she should have worn socks as well as was cold, I replied that they werent actually socks and they were actually a pair of wooly tights I had on underneath. She then asked why I was wearing tights under trousers and I told her it was a cold day plus I go outside for a ciggie on my breaks. She then said that wearing tights under trousers is wrong though to be honest I do not see what is wrong with this at all.

I would have asked her if she'd heard me asking for her opinion!!
Some people just can't stop themselves offering their pointless points of views that are not required. ?

I'm a chilly mortal and once the cold weather arrives (maybe next week) I have two layers top and bottom. Tights under trousers/jeans and long sleeved t-shirts/vests under jumpers. Otherwise I'm miserable and grumpy when I'm cold. Each to their own I say.

Lesleyberry
What the hell has it to do with anyone what you wear under your trousers. You were hardly breaking any rules . were you? I would have said******.That's my business.

That's a great idea JackyB.

I hate the feel of tights under trousers - and the sound they make. Puts my teeth on edge. But I can't and won't stop anyone doing it.

As I cycle to work, I used to wear pyjama trousers or long johns under my jeans, then go to the loo and have to completely undress - shoes and all - to get them off. It would be far to warm in the office to go around in long underwear all day.

Then I had a brainwave and now I pull a pair of track suit bottoms over my jeans and can just take them off without having to hide in the loo and without having to take my shoes off.

Not that anyone here wanted to know that, though. I just thought it was such a good idea, as so many items of warm clothing are just too much when you're indoors and the heating is on.

What a wonderful thread, Grans. It reminds me I have a pair of silk long johns I haven't worn for ages. I shall dig them out immediately!!

It was just her opinion - I feel the cold but hate wearing tights so I wear thin cotton mix leggings under dresses and skirts and trousers (if the weather is cold) If it works for you then carry on !

Even footballers wear thermals under their shorts

pamdixon Sun 29-Oct-17 12:31:36

I often wear tights under jeans, as an extra layer, in the cold weather. It never occurred to me that it wasn't a very normal thing to do - oh well - each one to their own as they say!!!

valeriej43 Sun 29-Oct-17 12:24:16

It is very cold here and windy, raining now too, i am wearing tights under my trousers, but i do have thermals for when its freezing
I am in the north,

Madgran77 Sun 29-Oct-17 12:22:22

Wear warm tights regularly under trousers when very cold! But why is this comment bothering you so much, we are all different!

inishowen Sun 29-Oct-17 12:08:53

When my children were little I used to put tights under their trousers on very cold days. Mind you, I don't think it's cold enough to do that yet.

Marieeliz Sun 29-Oct-17 12:04:59

I wear thermal leggings too. Could have done with them this morning when walking the dog.

I just find it weird that some people feel it’s acceptable to tell others what to do ! Especially over something that is both trivial and personal !

Jane43 Sun 29-Oct-17 12:03:00

Why do some people think their opinion is always right? I am a naturally hot person so tights under trousers would be very uncomfortable but I realise that others are naturally cold so if they feel better with tights under trousers I say go for it. It is rigid opinions like those of lesleyberry67’s work colleague that are the cause of conflict in this world.

Caro1954 Sun 29-Oct-17 11:59:35

Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in!

Liz46 Sun 29-Oct-17 11:58:30

I think tights were the invention of the devil. I've had to wear them twice this year and I hate them.

My husband used to wear them under his RAF uniform when he was working nights on an airfield!

Marnie Sun 29-Oct-17 11:53:44

Wear shorts all year indoors. Put trousers on to go out in colder weather but always wear sandals. Used to feel the cold but the older I get the hotter I feel.

MawBroon Sun 29-Oct-17 11:32:41

Lesleyberry any relation of sharonberry who had such a “ bad afternoon? “
Just asking because you seem to share the same spelling of “rele” hmm or is that a modern trend?

LadyGracie Sun 29-Oct-17 10:59:57

I wear whatever I can under trousers, I’m always cold. My long sleeved thermal vests came out this week

downtoearth Sun 29-Oct-17 10:10:43

There isnt room in my jeans for me and tights as wellsad
But have tried under work uniform before and found as uncomfy as phoenix and her sideways thong grin

MawBroon Sun 29-Oct-17 09:12:37

It’s not particularly cold yet - I have eaten lunch/had coffee outside twice in the last few days so what on Earth are you going to do when Winter really kicks in lesleyberry?
Or do you live in the far North?

harrigran Sun 29-Oct-17 09:00:10

My sister always wears tights under her trousers, she claims to hate the cold gap at the top of socks.
I use to wear pyjama trousers under hiking trousers but now have long silky thermals for cold weather.
If you feel the cold wear whatever helps.

Culag Sun 29-Oct-17 09:00:03

I regularly wear thermal leggings under jeans in the winter, hate feeling cold. But it is a relief not to when the weather warms up.

Fennel Sun 29-Oct-17 08:47:59

My Dad, who was very thin, used to wear pyjama trousers under his trousers in the winter.
You used to be able to buy woollen longjohns, but they were a b....r to wash hmm
